Arguably the best Game of Thrones season to date came to a close last night. The entire episode was pure gold, but there were a few scenes that stood above the rest.
Cersei and Jaime: Just remember they’re actors and not actually siblings.
After threatening her father with the truth of her children’s origins, Cersei shows everyone that she can get what she wants. She refuses to marry Loras Tyrell in favor of being with Jaime. Cersei reminds the audience once again that she is the only one who is in control of her fate at this point.
Brienne vs. The Hound: The fight that no one knew they wanted.
This scene had everything you could ever want in a fight: blood, ear biting, face bashing, and a lot of girl power. It was nice to see Brienne flex her muscles again because frankly, it had been much too long since we have seen her kick some serious a**. Though Brienne and Podrick didn’t end up with Arya, I’d still consider this a win for the duo because now they at least know that Arya is alive.
Shae’s Death: I might have cheered.
I doubt anyone is very torn up about Shae’s death in this episode. Shae became one of my most hated characters when she sold Tyrion out during his trial a few episodes back, but I was still holding on to hope that she would have some great reasoning as to why she did that. However, the second she was found in Tywin’s bed, all my sympathy for her flew right out the window. How could she do this Tyrion? Did she ever love him? Was she actually in love with Tywin? She could have had some kind of explanation, but now we’ll never know it. I’m sure we’re all a little worried about Tyrion’s mental state after this though.
Tywin’s Death: I definitely cheered.
After everything he has done to the Stark’s, the way in which Tywin died was fitting. There was no honor in how he died; his own son shot him multiple times while he using the bathroom, and, oh, did he deserve it. Tywin really didn’t have much luck with his children in this episode. Though I admired his strategic mind, it was time for him to go. At least we’ve still got one mastermind in King’s Landing (I’m looking at you, Olenna Tyrell).
These are a just a few of the remarkable scenes that made up this incredible wrap to an even more incredible season. We can’t forget Daenerys locking up her dragons or Bran’s discovery of the three-eyed raven or Jon Snow and Ygritte’s funeral pyre. And we certainly cannot forget Arya heading out for Bravos to hopefully find Jaqen H’ghar or Jojen Reed’s very abrupt death and his sister crying over him. This finale left us with a lot of questions that I’m sure we all want answered right now. How long until season five?
