Rihanna’s empire continues to grow as her inclusive Savage X Fenty line adds a menswear capsule collection. This new line will be debuting at their annual Savage X Fenty fashion show on Oct. 2 on Amazon Prime Video.
This menswear line comes to no surprise as Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty mission is to be as inclusive as possible. With its initial launch in 2018, Savage X Fenty positioned itself as the empowering competitor to Victoria’s Secret, which has been struggling to reach consumers since the #MeToo movement began. Rihanna has always advocated for women from all walks of life by using all races of women in her campaigns and fashion shows. Additionally, she showcases different body types with sizes ranging from XS to 3XL. Rihanna’s mission is to give women an avenue to feel sexy. So, some wonder what better way to do that than through lingerie?
Rihanna filled a gap in the lingerie industry that has now inspired brands to do the same. According to marketing analysis firm, Edited, since Savage X Fenty entered the market, US and UK retailers have increased the number of size-inclusive lingerie styles by 34 percent. They detailed a clear rise in size ranges after September 2018 which coincides with Savage X Fenty’s first runway show. “Retailers are finally understanding that there needs to be a greater representation of sizes across products and in advertising,” Edited explains. This is a concept that seemed so simple and yet many brands are just now catching on to it. Now, Savage X Fenty representation is expanding even further with their Rih-approved boxers. Christian Combs, P. Diddy’s son who first started off as a model and ambassador, collaborated with Rihanna to create the brand’s first menswear collection.
The collection consists of satin monogram print pajamas, woven boxers and vibrant thick banded knit boxers and trunks, which is right on time for chilling at home in these socially distant times. Ranging in sizes from S to XXXL, the line will be ready for sale on the brand’s website on Oct. 2 after their third annual runway show. By partnering with Amazon Prime for the second year in a row, Rihanna’s digital runway show that included a live audience was ahead of the time, since COVID-19 has forced designers to get creative this year with their fashion shows. This year the epic show will premiere just like before but without the audience. All the guests, critics and Navy (Rihanna’s fans) will watch from home.
This year’s extravaganza is looking to be better than ever with special appearances from Lizzo, Bella Hadid, Big Sean, Cara Delevingne, Christian Combs, Normani, Demi Moore, Laura Harrier, Paris Hilton, Rico Nasty, Shea Couleé, Willow Smith and Chika. The performances will be given by Travis Scott, Bad Bunny, Rosalia, Ella Mai, Miguel, Roddy Ricch and Mustard. Viewers can tune into the groundbreaking, visually pleasing runway show—the only place where fashion meets Rihanna—on Amazon Prime starting Oct. 2.
