Name: Hannah Madison

Hometown: Orlando, Fla.
Major: Business Management and Marketing
Her Campus (HC): What are some of the things you’re involved with here at FSU?
Hannah Madison (HM): I am a sister in Chi Omega and also in ARO which is an academic recruitment organization. I’m working with the Collegiate Entrepreneurship Organization as well and this semester I’m really excited about starting the FSU Adventure Club.
HC: All of those organizations seem very rewarding. Could you tell us what inspired you to start this new club?
HM: This past summer I was sitting at work trying to figure out what I want to do for a career. I’ve always been passionate about being outside and helping people so I started to brainstorm ways in which I could put those two together. That led me to deciding to start an outdoor club at FSU, including a service component that would help get local Tallahassee kids outside.
HC: After this idea came to mind, what steps did you take to make it a reality?
HM: I shared my ideas to my supervisor at the time and he actually emailed me a link to the Tallahassee Adventure Club Facebook page which is a local nonprofit. After checking out the page I decided to email the founder of TAC, Jeremy Rogers, a local firefighter here in town who was looking for someone to start a sister club on campus. We ended up meeting to discuss and share ideas for the FSU club and our visions lined up perfectly. We both wanted the right mix of outdoors and helping youth. From then on, we have been meeting, recruiting and coming up with ideas together. Right now we have an advisor who is helping us become an RSO (Registered Student Organization) so that we can officially become a Florida State University club.
HC: That sounds amazing! How will the FSU Adventure Club work with youth?
HM: Alongside one of FSU’s Family Child and Sciences professors, we are currently creating ideas for an outreach club called ATLAS that we are aiming to start this spring semester. Our goal is that it will give at-risk youth in the community a chance to learn and discover what passions they may have for the outdoors, something they normally aren’t exposed to. FSU students in the organization would rotate going to after school care facilities throughout the semester to teach youth about outdoor living skills.
HC: That is something that will be extremely beneficial in their lives. What is your hope for this club?
HM: My hope is that this club generates a group of people who support each other’s passions in all facets of their lives. I want this club to be a place for everyone to bring what you love to the table while staying hungry for growth and exploring the outdoors. Our executive board consists of people who are all passionate about being outdoors and are bringing their expertise in their positions to the table.
HC: What are some places that members of this organization have explored?
HM: All over the world. We’ve explored out west, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Alaska, Hawaii and countries like Spain, Portugal, Peru, Brazil and Argentina.
HC: What can people look forward to and how can those who are interested get involved?
HM: Without giving away where we are going, because that will be revealed at our next meeting, we so far are planning a variety of local day trips, a few weekend trips and an out of state trip! Check out our social media (Facebook: FSU Adventure Club, Instagram: @adventureclubfsu) and come by our meeting this Wednesday night (Oct. 4) at 7:30 p.m. at the outdoor amphitheater near Westcott! Hope to see you there!
