Help Save This Campus Cutie: KitKat The Adorable Carpet Dancer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Hometown: Miami springs, FL

Dog

Name: Kitkat Delgado

Breed: Dachshund

Major: Dance

Age: 4

Weight: 15 lbs

Hometown: Tallahassee, FL

Like most Collegiettes, Ciera Delgado lives on a student budget. Her money goes towards her education and living expenses, so when her best friend KitKat gets sick, she has little extra funds to run to. Delgado loves KitKat with as much passion that any animal lover can understand. If you have a pet, you understand how close of a connection you build with them. You learn to depend on them for comfort, for love, and you consider them another member of your family.

Her Campus (HC): What’s wrong with KitKat!?

Ciera Delgado (CD): She has intervertebral disk disease. It’s degenerative in her breed. Unfortunately the affected area is located at two disks in her neck. This means that medication really won’t help her, so surgery is the only means of her getting better.

HC: We’re sorry to hear that. How much is the surgery?

CD: The surgery is $3,500. As a college student I can’t afford this, and there’s nothing more frustrating than seeing KitKat in pain.

HC: Is there anything others can do to help?

CD: I actually created a webpage where people can donate to the cause. So far, I have raised $385 in 10 days.

HC: We hope she feels better! On a happier note, what are KitKat’s hobbies?

CD: Cuddling, the Carpet Dance… and more cuddling!

HC: Carpet Dance?!

CD: *laughs* Go see for yourself! https://vine.co/v/MWw5wmvDMHm

HC: I see! What a cutie! So what is her favorite snack?

CD: She looooves peanut butter. It’s probably not the best for her, but since she grew up on the streets, I let her indulge herself every now and then in this treat.

HC: She grew up on the streets? How did you two meet?

CD: I met her Thanksgiving break of 2013. My parents rescued her, and I fell in love with her the minute I saw her. Kitkat was actually a mother already when we found her; unfortunately, we don’t know what happened to her puppies. I didn’t hesitate to bring her to Tallahassee with me to care for her.

HC: How much does she mean to you?

CD: Kitkat is my little baby. It’s nice to have someone that loves you unconditionally when you come home.  I love buying her presents and seeing how happy she gets from a little bone. Since we live in an apartment, she flips out because she has no idea where she can dig a hole and hide the bone from my roommates and me. It’s really cute to watch her.

HC: I’m so curious… Why did you name her KitKat?

CD:  I named her KitKat because of the color of her hair. She also gives me the craziest puppy eyes when I eat Kit-Kats! Another reason why I picked that name was because it resembled the temporary name my parents gave her, Cuca, a very Cuban dog name.

HC: To those who have helped you raise money for KitKat so far, what would you want to tell them?

CD:  I love my dogs and care about them so much. I’m forever grateful for them helping me save KitKat!

HC: What’s something you cherish about your relationship?

CD: We listen to music together while she does the carpet dance. I run and dance around her as she keeps dancing! KitKat is more than just a dog to me; she always brings everyone together…my friends, family and roommates. We’re one big diverse family, and we’re all devastated just looking at her suffer. Anything, even $1, can help make a difference and save her life.
