We all know the gym is the best place to finally achieve that #Summer2018 body or that #NewYearsResolution body. The messages are always the same – eat your vegetables and salads, make the effort and actually go to the gym.
But, if you’re anything like me, you hate going to the gym and every single feeling you feel after the gym. The couch calls your name, you take out your favorite Cookies ‘n Cream ice cream or a bowl full of chips and flip-on your favorite Netflix show. How many of us have been offended when Netflix asks “Are you still watching?”
However, when we do actually make the effort to go to the gym… well, here’s how it goes:
1. You wake up to three different alarms after your nap
After those long school or work days, the couch is always calling our name. We attempt to go to the gym by convincing ourselves that it’s “just a 30-minute nap” but end up snoozing three alarms, curling up in our sheets, missing that class at the Leach and giving up on the gym completely that Monday.
2. Convincing yourself to head to the gym
When we finally convince ourselves to go to the gym, after a week of “I’ll go to the gym tomorrow,” we feel pumped, energetic and excited. We look online to learn new gym tricks, “fat-burning” exercises and healthy-looking snacks to tackle the healthy lifestyle.
3. How we really feel while working out
Exercising for the first time after many missed days can be painful, overwhelming, tiring and frustrating. Our breath seems to run short, we seem to get lost during those Zumba and Dance classes and our frustrations might get the best of us. I mean, what are we doing at the gym anyway?!
4. How we feel after working out
That euphoria, that relaxing feeling, that happiness – all because of that hour and a half struggle from the gym. Although it’s difficult to actually get to the gym, the feeling of complete ease and Zen makes it all the more worth it to get up and go!
5. The Post-Gym Soreness
Ah, the dreaded sore feeling after those leg and arm days. The days where we can’t make it down the stairs or lift things that are too heavy, those “I hate my life days.” For those of us non-gym junkies, these are the days that deter us from the gym – until we head back to the gym, probably three days later to do the whole cycle again!
6. … And don’t even talk to me about cardio
