Whether you live your life by your chart or you think it’s all total BS, astrology has undeniably been having a moment this year. I used to read the newspaper just for the comics and the horoscopes as a kid, but that was the extent of my astrology knowledge. Now that all of my friends are into it (like…really into it), I wanted to learn more but trying to understand all the odds and ends got super confusing. Guided by some Google searches, I downloaded three different astrology-related apps to see which ones could give me the info I was looking for. Newbies and experts alike, check them out!
Co-Star
Between the memes and the shady one-liners, Co-Star is definitely the hottest astrology app on the market right now. When you download the app, it asks for your name, birthday and birth time/location. The app uses data from NASA satellites to give you hyper-accurate info about yourself and your personality. You get a daily horoscope complete with planetary explanations for the feelings and situations you might be in right now, plus some advice on how to deal with them. There’s also a section of the app dedicated to helping you understand each placement in your chart so that you can get more out of your readings. Plus, it lets you connect with your friends (a la Snapchat) and shows you which friends have similar chart placements and daily readings as you. At first, I was skeptical, but the more I interacted with the app, the more accurate it became.
Final verdict? It’s popular for a reason!
Recommended for: People who are new to astrology and/or looking for some serious life advice.
The Pattern
If you love reading and getting your brain picked, then The Pattern is 100% for you! It focuses less on the specifics of your star chart, providing you with a story-like analysis of your innermost personality and character instead. These little stories come in different categories, such as “Vulnerability or Intensity,” “Relationship Expectations” and “Work and Public Life.” Much like Co-Star, a cool feature on The Pattern is the ability to connect with friends and check out your compatibility, AKA how much you ~vibe~ with each other.
Final verdict? It definitely knows what makes you tick.
Recommended for: People who want to better understand themselves and their relationships with others.
TimePassages
This one isn’t just cashing in on a passing fad – Henry Seltzer developed the first version of TimePassages (which is still active today at astrograph.com) in 1995! TimePassages is a very data and chart-focused app, but be warned: it’s not for the faint of heart. The horoscope readings are separated by each of your planetary placements and influences, which could include over 20 separate explanations for just one day of your horoscope. The language they use to explain your influences can also get very technical, but luckily they do a good job of breaking it down for you in easy-to-understand terms.
Final verdict? Lots of cool info, but it’s easy to get overwhelmed by it.
Recommended for: Astro experts and astronomy nerds.
