Temperatures are dropping and leaves are falling from trees. A cool breeze hits your skin as you step outside the door, scattering little chills of goosebumps all over your body. Summer days of heat and sweat are over, and it’s finally time to enjoy fall in Tallahassee. The best way to celebrate sweater-weather season is by hanging under the beautiful tall trees scattered around campus. Here are some reasons why investing in a hammock could elevate your college experience at Florida State.
Having the fall leaves form a canopy over you is quite a therapeutic feeling. With all the school stress and class rush, it’s hard to catch a break. Whether between classes or after, this could be an effective way to catch up on some sleep. Power nap or close your eyes for a few seconds to enjoy the sun. Put two headphones in with your favorite playlist and escape into your little world, even if it’s for at least 20 minutes.
However, if you are drowning in schoolwork, then you still have the opportunity to be outside while prioritizing your academics. Sometimes, the library is crowded, or our backs hurt sitting on the hard wooden chairs for hours. Hence, studying in a comfortable area with fresh air could enhance productivity and focus. Even if you think it may not be for you, wouldn’t you want to try having a study session two feet in the air, feeling like you’re on top of the world?
There are a few staple spots around campus that would be perfect for setting up your hammock. Landis Green is the hotspot because it has the best trees. If you’re walking down from Strozier, you will see the most durable trees standing tall in front of your eyes. From people watching and enjoying the post-class rush, this is preferably for those social butterflies. Walking further down, there is a secluded area closer to Magnolia Hall. The shady area overlooking West Jefferson Street could be for you if you want to avoid the chaos of Landis. Some peace and quiet, with a book at hand if your heart desires. Overall, the campus is blooming with vibrant trees and locations to choose from.
If you’re convinced, hammocks are only around $20 on Amazon. You can pick the color combination you desire with this specific brand that is both affordable and good quality. These parachute nylon hammocks only weigh a pound or two, making it practical to carry everywhere in your backpack. At first, setting it up might be intimidating, but it is effortless to wrap it around the tree trunk and clip the hammock securely. You can even hang it as high or low as you want. It’s also a double hammock, so you can have another person share it with you! No class or plans for the weekend? Ask a friend to hammock with you even if they may not have one.
You may have noticed the hammock community at Florida State walking around campus. All wrapped up in their cocoon-like fabrics, whether alone or with people, they always catch some attention. You can make new friends, socialize, or relax. Perhaps adding a hammock to your Christmas list could be the start of your journey!
