Her Campus (HC): How do you like Florida State?
Jamie Green (JG): I couldn’t imagine going to any other school. This was the only school I applied to! And I got deferred after early admissions! Needless to say, I’m very happy with my decision and the friends I’ve made here are next to none.
HC: What are your hobbies?
JG: I’m a health nut. I go to the gym almost every day when I’m done with classes and finished studying. I love sports. I played basketball, volleyball and flag football all throughout high school.

HC: What are you involved with on campus?
JG: Currently, I am not in any clubs or a part of any groups. I’m still getting a hold on the college life. I plan on joining a few STEM-based clubs or societies in the near future. I also plan to rush next fall and see how that experience treats me. This winter, my best friend and I will be joining an intramural basketball team.
HC: What kind of music do you listen to?
JG: I listen to everything. It really depends on the situation. For a night out, obviously rap. In the car I like to listen to country. My favorite type of music to listen to live is reggae.
HC: Why would you recommend Florida State to someone trying to decide where to go to school?
JG: Florida State is filled with tradition, which is something I value. Everyone here is just so spirited all the time. Not only is it easy to have school pride because your sports teams are so amazing, but the academics are highly recognized too, which is something that is constantly overlooked about FSU.
HC: Have you traveled much?
JG: I’ve had the privilege of traveling a lot throughout my childhood. My parents were big on me realizing how small the world can be once you’ve had the opportunity to appreciate the different cultures, even if you’re traveling within your own country. I also had the incredible opportunity to spend a month in the UK when I was younger. I loved it so much. I applied to study there in the spring!

HC: You want to study abroad?
JG: Yes! I applied to complete a majority of my liberal studies requirements in London come this spring semester. I don’t want to miss out on any opportunity. I have to be able to see the rest of the world. Not only did I apply for that, but I’ve also been researching the international internship programs and hope to spend a summer in Beijing or Shanghai once I learn more of the Chinese language.
HC: Do you have a specific career aspiration?
JG: I’m really big on renewable resources and clean energy. I’m minoring in Chinese because they’re the biggest investors in alternative energy. With that, I’m hoping I can land a position as an environmental engineer with a company who is interested in collaborating with them on future projects.
HC: What’s your study routine?
JG: You can catch me at Strozier every weekday somewhere around Starbucks. I set up camp at one of the booths if they’re available, make a list of assignments to do and then just go at it for however long it takes.

HC: What’s your typical weekend like?
JG: These past few weeks I’ve been traveling back to St. Pete. But if I were in Tally, I probably would have found myself going out both nights; attending the football game on Saturday and tailgating beforehand. Sunday is another day solely dedicated to football and just relaxing.
HC: How do you stay motivated?
JG: I keep a journal with a Coco Chanel quote on the front that says “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” In that journal, I write down weekly goals, whether they are financial, academic or personal. Seeing them written there helps me try harder to achieve them.
HC: Do you have a role model?
JG: My biggest role model has to be Emma Watson for her involvement as a U.N. Women’s Ambassador. She’s big on the gender equality campaign, HeforShe. Plus, Hermione Grainger wouldn’t be the same if she was played by any one else.
HC: Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
JG: In 10 years, I hope to be a part of some large project that uses the Earth’s natural resources like wind, sun and water to produce mass amounts of efficient energy at a lower cost than what we’re dealing with now. If we can’t figure out how to power whole cities at a time, we can focus on each household and how we can make it possible for every individual to make the switch. Things like solar panels are available to be installed in most households, but that doesn’t mean it’s financially practical. I want to be able to find some way to make that more accessible to everyone.
