Justin Bieber has been closely followed by the media since his sudden rise to fame at the mere age of thirteen. In that time, he has been praised by unconditionally loving fans and absolutely torn apart by critics. His achievements and mistakes have always been guaranteed to make headlines. Now, at 27 years old, Bieber appears to be in a good stage of life, at last breaking free of inner turmoils and the relentless tabloids.
Justice, Justin’s sixth studio album was released this past March of 2021, just over a year since his last album’s, Changes, release. With similar inspiration to that of Changes, his love for his wife, Hailey Baldwin, and the role of faith in his life, this album finds a slightly more laidback and upbeat tone. It begins however with a serious tone through the clip of Martin Luther King Jr. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” King states. An interlude halfway through the album includes another section of an MLK speech, a nod to the Civil Rights icon, and an explanation for the chosen title of the album. The pop/r&b style album has taken a hold of the biggest charts in the music industry. At its release, the album itself sat at No. 1 on Billboard’s Albums Chart. One of the album’s singles, “Peaches” took over the spot of No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Justin is the third artist behind Taylor Swift and BTS to hold both spots within the same week!
The sure-to-be a summer favorite-single, “Peaches” also debuted at the number one seat of the Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs Chart, the third time Justin has achieved this feat. According to Rolling Stone, the song has garnered over 16,000 downloads and over 26 million streams. That being said, the album is filled with hits. Fifteen of the songs off the new album found spots on the RS Top 100 Songs Chart! The ninth track on the album, “Hold On,” is a song that fans have already described as a taste of old Bieber musical sound with lyrics that show his found clarity in life. It debuted on the sixth spot of the RS Top 100 Songs Chart, followed closely by “As I Am” at Number 10.
The star-studded album featured a variety of performers. Khalid was featured on the RS Top 100 Number 10 song, “As I Am.” Chance the Rapper, another popular artist that has voiced his relationship with God through his music, came through on the poppy single, “Holy.” Other featured artists included Dominic Fike, Benny Blanco, Daniel Caesar and more. Not to mention, the various other stars that graced the deluxe version of the album, such as Lil Uzi Vert, DaBaby and Tori Kelly.
The overwhelming support of other artists to join Justin’s newest album comes as little surprise a year after the longtime, spotlight artist released the YouTube documentary series, “Justin Bieber: Sessions.” The series delved into the darkest years of the star’s life, exposing the reality behind the tabloids. The world has embraced Justin’s vulnerability as well as his hopefulness of a new path in life.
