Her Campus (HC): What is it that you do with the football team?
Kyndall Herman (KH): I’m a sports nutrition intern. I basically set up pre workout snacks for the team and help to put the food in their locker room. I make sure that they are fueling before, during and after the game.
HC: How did you hear about this internship? What made you want to be a part of it?
KH: My friend invited me to go to an info-session with her, and I fell in love with it. As soon as I started working here, I knew I wanted to be here. I am a huge football fan, I mean, c’mon! It’s Florida State! I talked to the director and she let me go out to a few spring practices. I told her I wanted to work for football camp, and then I got scheduled.

HC: As we all know, Showtime is present around Florida State University, filming for their new seasonal feature, “A Season with Florida State Football”. Do you see them around a lot?
KH: Oh, yes! They are filming everything. They have put some cameras in our face before and it can get a little uncomfortable.
HC: Is it weird to see the behind the scenes of it all and then re-watch it on television?
KH: Yeah, I mean, most of the players try to ignore it, but it is a TV show nonetheless, so some things that are filmed have to be somewhat staged. We just wish that the show was longer because there is so much that you guys don’t see.
HC: Do you notice anything interesting about the players?
KH: They are some really good kids. You can just tell that they all come from really good backgrounds and a lot of them do really well in school. A bunch of them have above a 3.0 GPA. They aren’t just football players.
HC: How has working with the football team shaped you as a person?
KH: It has really humbled me. There is a lot going on and we have to roll with the punches. When Coach Fisher, on Showtime, referenced the hurricane, it’s true. If something goes wrong we just have to keep on going.
HC: Has something ever gone wrong?
KH: Oh, yeah! During camp we kept running out of smoothie ingredients. It sounds so small, but it takes a toll. It has really taught me not to sweat the small stuff. It’s been a huge learning experience.
HC: What do you love most about sports nutrition?
KH: I love that we are all working towards a common goal. Watching them get better, things clicking for them and helping them learn a little bit are what inspire me the most. They appreciate it and it shows.
