Lake Ella is one of the most beautiful spots in Tallahassee, FL. There are sidewalks encompassing the entire lake, making it a perfect recreational spot as well. However, there are many other activities to do at Lake Ella besides exercising, walking your dog, or feeding the ducks.
The cottages at Lake Ella have fifteen locally owned shops, ranging from hair salons to a bike shop. Perhaps one of the most unique shops is Quarter Moon Imports, locally owned since 1989. For any girl who is tired of having the same clothes as everyone else, Quarter Moon Imports is the place for you to start shopping because it is the mecca of fashion and home decor. They sell just about everything a girl needs, such as unique clothing (tie-dye crop tops!), jewelry, and purses. They also have a wide variety of home decor items like tapestries, vases, candles, and lotus flower tea light holders. Not to mention, the Quarter Moon Imports staff is one of the nicest in Tallahassee. They come to FSU market Wednesday (located at the Oglesby Union), too. Be sure to check out their Instagram and Facebook for pictures and updates of new products.
Lake Ella also hosts Food Truck Thursday from 6:00 pm – 9:00 P.M. Multiple food trucks come out to Lake Ella and allow the people of Tallahassee to enjoy a wide variety of eats and live music. The trucks include, but are not limited to, Fired Up Pizza Truck, Julio’s Food On The Move, MoBi, Valhalla grill, Foodz Traveler, Street Chefs, and Lucy & Leo’s Cupcakery. Some FSU students may have already purchased a meal from the MoBi food truck. The food truck used to park on the corner of Copeland and Park last year, and now it parks downtown on the corner of College and Adams. MoBi has a very unique, delicious, and affordable menu. Their sandwiches are some of the best in town, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to see MoBi at Food Truck Thursday. Lucy & Leo’s Cupcakery has two locations, one on Thomasville and the other on W Madison. They open in the morning and don’t close until they sell out, which is usually around five or six in the evening. So, if you have a craving for Lucy & Leo’s after hours, Food Truck Thursday is the place to be. This goes without saying, but they have the best cupcakes in town.
Lake Ella’s Growers Market happens every Wednesday from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm. The Grower’s Market is one of the best places in town to get local and organic produce. All of the farmers selling their produce are local and only in-season produce is sold. Right now, the people of Tallahassee can enjoy snap peas, organic strawberries, kale, eggs, and fresh baked bread. FSU will be hosting an event on April 10th (Thursday) from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm to discuss the benefits of eating local produce. For more information on the event, click here.
