Picture this: you’re sitting with your friends and they’re all talking about what they are dressing up as for Halloween. Suddenly, your face loses color as you realize that Halloween is just a few days away and you have no idea what you’re going to be! You’re broke and can’t spend any money on a costume you’ll just wear once. Check out my ideas for creating the perfect Halloween costume directly from the classic staples you have in your closet!
1. The Black Dress
Owning a simple black dress opens a world of possibilities. Throw on some cat ears and some cute black boots, and BOOM! You’re a cat. Add red lipstick and a fur coat, and you could be Cruella de Vil.

2. A Tan Coat
Throw on a pair of jeans, some boots, a cute hat, and a coat. Go to the dollar store and pick up a magnifying glass, and you just became a detective! Go get ’em, Nancy Drew.

3. Anything Red and Black
Dress in all red and black, and you just became the devil! Hit up your local Walmart, CVS, or even Goodwill and you’re destined to find a pair of devil horns.

4. A Hawaiian Shirt
Owning a Hawaiian shirt can be used for many different costumes. Wearing just the shirt with perhaps a bathing suit underneath makes you an island girl. Go the extra mile and borrow your dad’s old fanny pack, swipe some sunscreen on your nose, wear socks and Crocs, and suddenly, you’re a tacky tourist!

5. Any Sports Jersey
Owning any jersey, no matter what sport, gives you an instant costume. Throw it on, wear some sneakers, find a ball of some sort, paint some lines on your face, and you’re an athlete. Easiest trick in the book.

6. All Black
Wearing all black makes you a spy! Everyone has a pair of black jeans or pants, even leggings! Throw on a black t-shirt, some black boots or shoes, and you’re set! Bonus for black aviator sunglasses. Another idea for the all-black costume is Sandy from Grease! Add red lipstick and suddenly “you’re the one that I want!”

7. Your Favorite Pair of Jeans
Jeans are a staple that I KNOW everyone has. Wear a flannel with them, cowboy boots, and a bandana and suddenly you’re the new sheriff in town. Another idea is to find a jean jacket and wear all denim! That way, you look like you just stepped out of the ’90s!

8. The White Button Down
Possibly the easiest costume of all time. Throw on a white button-down and some sunglasses, and hopefully, you don’t get into any risky business.

9. Anything Animal Print
Animal print is definitely in style right now. Wear a simple animal print top or fun pants and you can pass as any animal!

10. A Bathing Suit
Turn your favorite beach outfit into a costume! Pick out your favorite bathing suit, shorts, and flip-flops and you’re ready to go! You’re a beach girl!

11. A Tennis Skirt/Workout Outfit
This one is super easy. If you have a tennis skirt, wear a cute top with it and sneakers and you’re a tennis girl! If not, you can still wear your favorite workout outfit and be a fitness instructor!

12. A Tie-Dye Shirt
All you have to do is wear a tie-dye shirt and jeans to become an instant hippie! Don’t forget to throw up a peace sign!
