Let’s Talk Personal Branding With Fran Casaine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Fran Casaine is the only person I know who has a personal brand that infiltrates every part of her life. I sat down with her to talk about how she achieved this and what others can do to reach this point.

Her Campus (HC): What made you want to establish a personal brand for yourself and when did it happen?

Fran Casaine (FC): It happened during my sophomore year of high school. I moved to a new city and didn’t really know anyone. This is when I started to get really into social media. I took a journalism class that really put an emphasis on social media profiles and building your own reputation. I decided to make a blog, reset all of my socials and really figure out who I wanted to be. I shared it with my peers so they could get to know me. All of this made me figure out that if I wanted a strong media presence, I needed to figure out how to relate to the students that I wanted to be friends with.

HC: How would you describe your personal brand?

FC: I would say it’s fun! It’s really artistic, spirited and simple. I work hard so that my brand is an accurate representation of me as a person because it is hard to convey personalities through pictures. I want to depict an accurate story of what I am actually like.

HC: Who is your audience or who would you like your audience to be?

FC: Honestly anyone that relates to me. I try to appeal to and target people that I relate to or would be friends with. The people you have things in common with are the people you are going to have a connection with. This is how I determine who I want to target. I want to form genuine connections with the people that relate to me.

HC: How does your brand show up in everyday life?

FC: My room decor is the closest thing that I have to my brand in real life. I make it a reflection of who I am. It reflects my personality and my spirit. Everything has its place, meaning and function. Decor for me is a direct representation of who I am, whether it is an actual object or the way it is put together.

HC: Do you think that you will stick with this brand forever? Or will it grow and change with you?

FC: Since the brand is a reflection of me, it is bound to grow. I’m still changing and growing. My brand needs to be an accurate representation of me and my changes, adaptations and new environments. My brand changing is inevitable.

HC: How do you showcase your brand?

FC: Having a blog, somewhere that I have to publish content, is the best demonstration of my brand. I am trying to launch new projects currently. I’m a big promoter of living creatively, so I feel that my new projects are the biggest embodiment of that. So, stay tuned!

HC: What makes you stand out from your peers?

FC: I’ve had experiences that have shaped me and given me different perspectives. Living in different places and meeting people from different cultures that are nothing like me sets me apart from the way everyone else sees things. No one really has my perspective. My experiences are very particular. This has made me more of a visionary, more adaptable to people and ideas. It inspires me to keep pushing forward.

HC: What is the end result you are trying to achieve with your personal brand?

FC: To resonate with people. There is a lot of content on the internet and people often develop the mindset that they want to be like them. I want people to feel like they are me. I want to feel like I’m just like them. I don’t want to be a celebrity or anyone too far-fetched. I want to be that person doing great things that people still feel they can relate to.

HC: What do you want people to say about your brand to others?

FC: That it gives off good vibes and that I’m someone worth following. I want my content to mean something to others.

HC: Do you have any tips/tricks for those trying to identify with a personal brand?

FC: Just think of your three best qualities and what that looks like. This could be a visual, object etc. Think about how this can be an inspiration to you. Channel that energy into what you want your brand to be.
