Elevate Your Makeup Looks With Lip Liner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror after finishing your makeup and wondered what could help unify your look, you might want to look into getting some lip liner. Versatile and timeless, lip liner can be the cure when you’ve become bored with your regular makeup routine. For over a century, all the makeup baddies have had some form of lip liner in their purses.

Monotonous makeup syndrome can be cured by selecting your signature lip combo. Let lip liner guide your looks into a legendary status. From a dreamy date night to a cutesy brunch with the girls, the right shade of lip liner could be the cherry on top of an already gorgeous look.

Endless Combo Possibilities

From a bashful blushy pink lip to a daring contrasting lip, there’s a lip liner for every shade on the color wheel. If you already have a vision of what color schemes work best for your skin tone, then choosing your lip combo can be a breeze. Since combos give you the freedom to mix and match different liners, glosses, and matte lipsticks you can be as creative or simple as you’d like with it.

Since makeup intended for lips tends to have more vibrant shades, your inner artist can shine through when you choose a rarer pairing. Achieving a striking editorial look can be made simple when you reach for your dark blue or neon yellow lipliner. The precision that lip pencils can give you can also allow you to freely outline shapes and patterns on your lips that lipstick doesn’t allow you to.

The ‘90s Power Lips

One of my favorite lip liner looks is from the ’90s. The bold contrasting look of a dark brown lip liner, a lighter lipstick shade, and some clear gloss is unmatched. The cutting-edge look that has since made a resurgence in recent years was originally popularized by Latina and Black women.

The sharpness of the look can add a new layer of boldness to even the most subtle makeup looks. An interesting play on the balance of your look would be having muted eye makeup and topping it off with the classic ‘90s lip look. Brown lip liner has become an essential in my makeup bag. When I do my makeup, I feel barefaced without it.

Add Effortless Volume

Fuller-looking pouts have become central to the beauty industry’s promo since the mid-2010s, leading many girls to scramble for ways to add volume to their lips. Everybody has lips that fit in with the harmony of their face. However, if you’re looking to emulate makeup that has arisen from online trends, lip liner can be your friend.

It’s important not to overline your lips too much, this might give the impression that you’re an amateur at makeup. Getting carried away with excessive overlining can be easy to fall into, and it may be a habit that’s hard to break. Makeup should enhance your unique features; it shouldn’t be used to completely alter your natural lip shape.

No matter what your preference of color or style is, there’s certainly a lip liner that’s waiting in Ulta for you to pick her up.
