Y’all ready for this?

Of the few unquestionable joys in this world (including all-day Netflix binges and really good almond croissants), The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Spike TV’s “Lip Sync Battle” is definitely near the top of the list. Within the past few seasons we have seen Anne Hathaway take on Miley Cyrus’ iconic “Wrecking Ball,” Joseph Gordon Levitt crush Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” and Channing Tatum completely demolish all of our feels with his version of Beyoncé’s “Run the World (Girls)” (as gif-ed above). The only thing that can possibly compare to watching Josh Gad straddle a Trump-hair covered wrecking ball while lip-syncing “I Touch Myself,” is to actually be a part of the battle yourself.Â

On Tuesday, March 22, YOU have a chance to compete in The Southeast Review’s first-ever Lip Sync Battle benefit concert. The event will be hosted by Lady Miss Kim McShane (Waterworks’ DJ Kimprovise) and judged by English Department faculty members Skip Horack, David Kirby and Deborah Coxwell-Teague. The battle will begin at 8 p.m. with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Strap on your best heels, blast some Beyoncé and head on down to The Warehouse at 706 W. Gaines Street to give us your best “It’s Britney B*tch,” win prizes and compete for the glory of being the first champion of The Southeast Review’s Lip Sync Battle.
The concert is a benefit to help raise funds for the printing of The Southeast Review’s semi-annual magazine. The Southeast Review is a national literary journal which is managed by graduate students and faculty in Florida State University’s Creative Writing program. Each issue publishes poetry, creative nonfiction, fiction, art, interviews and book reviews from contributors all across the globe.
In addition to the Lip Sync Battle, the event will also include a silent auction and a cash-only bake sale. Prizes for the silent auction will be donated by FSU faculty and local businesses, and they include: a football party with Diane Roberts (author of Tribal: College Football and the Secret Heart of America), a cigar-box guitar handmade by poet and translator James Kimbrell, a BBQ tutorial from Visiting Lecturer and poet Kerry James Evans, Literary Luminary candles and more. Drinks will also be available for purchase from The Warehouse.
