Meet Daniel Engler: President of FSU Advertising Club

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Her Campus (HC): Hey Daniel! To start off, what is your year and what are you studying?

Daniel Engler (DE): I am a senior majoring in Advertising with minors in General Business and Commercial Entrepreneurship!

HC: When did you join the Advertising Club and why?

DE: I joined the Advertising Club in my sophomore year of college to gain a greater insight into the field of Advertising! I heard about all the incredible opportunities that the Advertising Club offers to its members, such as resume workshops, internships opportunities, and of course the big semester trips. When I heard that the Advertising club goes to big advertising cities such as New York City, Austin, Chicago, etc. to go to various agencies and learn more about their operations and the field itself, I knew I had to join.

HC: What made you want to step into a leadership role?

DE: I wanted to step into a leadership role due to my passion for helping others achieve their personal and professional goals. I had always wanted to make a positive impact on my community at Florida State University, and I decided the Advertising Club would be a great place to start! I am currently the president of this organization, as well as President of Hall Council for Traditions and Ragans dormitory halls on campus.

HC: List all the roles you’ve had in this organization and when you took them.

DE: I originally started out as a Peer Mentor in the Advertising Club in October 2018. I really enjoyed working with other students and helping them by assisting in building their cover letters, resumes, and websites, so I decided to run for President during the next election a few months later to help my members on a larger scale.

HC: What is your favorite part about being president of the Advertising Club?

DE: Seeing everyone develop an indomitable passion for the field of advertising and then chasing their dream jobs! Many of our students love our semester trips, as this opportunity allows our members to go to various agencies, speak with experts in the field, and learn more about the field!

HC: What is the hardest part about being president?

DE: The semester trip planning, for sure. However, having a great team with me to plan out each detail makes all the difference!

HC: Are you involved in any other organizations?

DE: Yes! Along with being President and a Peer Mentor for the Advertising Club, I am also President of Hall Council for Traditions and Ragans dormitory halls. I am also a Founding Member of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leadership Council, an organization that was launched in April 2019 with a group of other individuals very involved on campus. Our goal focused on creating a more cohesive network among all entrepreneurship and innovation organizations to share events and opportunities on a larger scale for the benefit of Florida State University students. Through this organization, I discovered internship opportunities from the other founding members that I shared with the Advertising Club.

HC: What are your plans for the future?

DE: Following the completion of my undergraduate career, I intend on going to graduate school to further my education. After graduate school, I intend to start my career in Brand Strategy.

HC: If you could give one piece of advice to students, what would it be?

DE: Get involved!!! You will grow an incredible amount as an individual, both personally and professionally. College goes by pretty fast…maximize your time here as much as you can and create the biggest possible impact you can make.
