Let’s be real. No one genuinely enjoys finals week. Finals week is made up of all-nighters, coffee, sweat, anxiety and tears. It’s like professors want us to have a nervous breakdown.
Thus, Her Campus at FSU presents: the best places to cry (I mean, study) during finals week based on your zodiac sign.
AQUARIUS: THE STONE BUILDING
The Stone Building on the FSU campus offers the Learning Resource Center (LRC). The LRC is designed to offer individual study rooms and equipment check out. The LRC is a lot less well-known which offers a sense of privacy and quiet (which is great for a good cry). Although you may enjoy group study sessions, you study best when alone. Studying alone in spaces like Stone will allow you to be as awkward and disorganized as you like!
PISCES: MINA JO POWELL GREEN
Mina Jo Powell Alumni Green is the less frequented green behind the Westcott Fountain and Amphitheater. Mina Jo Powell is known for hammocking and warm sun rays. Pisces, you’re very creative and not super attentive. Part of the reason you do so well in independent studies is because you’re able to study away from all the distractions. Mina Jo Powell is just lonely enough that you will always have a space to sit, clear your mind and do your work no matter what your schedule may look like.
Aries: LANDIS GREEN
Do you often find yourself speed reading or skimming your assigned readings? Do you just want to get the studying part done already? Landis might be the place for you! Try to slow down. For every 15 minutes of studying, you can get up and walk around. Landis Green is a hot spot for picnics, studying, yoga classes and the occasional teary-eyed freshman. Don’t be afraid to take your time and actually annotate your notes. You got this!
TAURUS: STROZIER LIBRARY
Ah, the library. Strozier is a classic for any student who may wish to pull an all-nighter. You are easily sidetracked by noises or sudden movements, so an individual study room might be just the thing! It may take you a little longer to study than those around you, but that’s okay! Strozier is open 24 hours, six days a week.
GEMINI: Calvin’s coffee house
Calvin’s Coffee House is a locally owned masterpiece located right across from the College of Music. Gemini, we love you, but your attention span really isn’t the best, especially when it comes to time to focus on studies that are outside of your chosen specialization. Calvin’s is lowkey, with limited distractions and good corners to cry in. Order a coffee, listen to some calming music, put your phone away and study! You go, girl!
cancer: the sweet shop
The Sweet Shop is a classic study session and snack spot right across from SouthGate. The Sweet Shop is a Florida State University (FSU) tradition for coffee, even if it can get a little hectic during exam season. Cancer, blending into your environment and studying alone is what you love. It’s a lot easier to cram for the test and write the essay you’ve been procrastinating the last few weeks at The Sweet Shop because it’s a safe and known environment.
leo: the leach center
Something you may not know about the campus gym is that it is also a hotspot for studying! Leach has multiple tables and chairs available right next to outlets to encourage homework after your morning spin class and smoothie. Leo, if you don’t have a special interest in a topic, you probably won’t spend too much time studying for it. Scheduling a time to study after things already in your schedule, like the gym, could be very beneficial! Plus, it can’t be that uncommon to shed a tear after a long workout, right? You got this!
Virgo: caps
You enjoy independent studying and clean, organized places like the upstairs balcony right outside Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). You like to know what you’re studying before you study. You always have a plan and goals for your study session. Don’t be afraid to slow down and take some deep breaths. Mistakes are okay and if you start to feel overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to walk into a free counseling session.
LIBRA: ACE
Taking more credit hours than you can handle? Studying can sure get a little overwhelming with such a large to-do list on Canvas, you may not even know where to start! Stop by Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) Academic Planning, the Reading-Writing Center or College Life Coaching Meetings to sit down and figure out a plan. We believe in you!
scorpio: dirac library
Dirac is the other library on campus located along Legacy Walk. Dirac is known for being the Science Library and man do they have cool study supplies! Dirac offers scientific computers, a model skeleton and telescopes! Scorpio, you have an amazing memory. You hardly need those flashcards! However, if it comes to a subject you don’t like as much, you may start to struggle. Take a deep breath, visit Starbucks, focus and keep going.
sagittarius: 1851
Sagittarius, studying isn’t always the first thing on your mind, so restaurant settings might be the place for you. You tend to daydream a lot, especially if you’re tired of studying already (like during finals week). Setting up a rewards system while studying might help! Create time for you to take a break from studying to grab some tacos. Don’t stress this!
capricorn: tally cat cafe
Capricorn, hear me out. You’re known for having quirky study regimens. Your seemingly out-of-place study habits are what make you, you! Don’t be afraid to lean into the chaos and see what works. Study in a place like the Tally Cat Cafe where you can feel comfortable. You can pet an emotional support cat, get some coffee and get your work done all at once. Finals week is made for making memories, both good and bad. Enjoy it.
