There are many things you’ll see at Township… and coffee would likely not be anyone’s first thought. The infamous beer hall can be found in Collegetown right across from Madison Social and Coosh’s (619 S. Woodward Ave, Tallahassee, FL 32304). Many of you know it instead as being a spot for happy hour or casual drinks with friends on game days. However, for finals week at Florida State University (FSU), it can be your outlet for all things Argonaut Coffee and studying!
On April 17, Township announced the pop-up on their Instagram: “Got finals coming up? Looking for a place to catch up on some emails? Need somewhere new to work remotely? @argonautcoffee will be hosting a pop up [sic] shop with us [on] April 18-21 and April 25-28.”
$10 All You Can Drink Drip passes will be available, as well as cold brew, iced honey lavender lattes (with a non-dairy option) and iced tea. They will also have a nice selection of muffins, cookies and other delicious pastries from our friends 3 sons and @tastypastry. Opens at 10 a.m. [sic] and closes at 7 p.m. [sic] each day.”
You can normally find Argonaut Coffee on the second floor of Tallahassee’s local independent bookstore, Midtown Reader at 1123 Thomasville Rd. Tallahassee, FL 32303. Be sure to check their website to see their hours as they are open later on weeknights. This is a great place to grab a book downstairs before heading upstairs to enjoy a coffee and pastries.
I wanted to familiarize myself with places outside of campus during my time at Florida State. Argonaut Coffee, Midtown Reader and Jeri’s Midtown Café (which is a restaurant connected to the bottom of Midtown and Argonaut) are all fantastic places to check out if you want to become more familiar with the local businesses around Tallahassee. I find that the more I explore, the more this second city becomes a second home for me as well.
There are so many other great coffee spots around Tally as well. One can be found right across the street to Midtown at RedEye Coffee, located at 1122 Thomasville Rd. Tallahassee, FL 32303. I will warn you, though: their espresso and coffee drinks are relatively strong, so if you prefer something lighter in caffeine content, I would recommend a non-espresso drink like tea. Their quiche is also amazing, and they offer other vegetarian food options.
Lucky Goat Coffee has multiple locations but its flagship location can be found at 1307 N. Monroe St. Tallahassee FL, 32301. Be sure to check out their options for take-home coffee as well. Black Dog Café at 229 Lake Ella Dr. Tallahassee FL, 32303 is perfect if you are looking for a gem and a view; definitely add this one to your list. Not only is it at a convenient little strip right on Lake Ella, but they also have extended hours that are not super common for more early-rising coffee shops.
There are of course plenty more coffee shops to be found throughout the state capital city and I highly encourage you to branch out of your Starbucks or Dunkin’ habit to find a new favorite study shop. There are so many great places to see and things to try, which are not solely limited to coffee.
Finals are upon us! As stressful as it is, you’ve made it this far: don’t give up now. Take a sip of coffee, grab a friend, eat a pastry and power through. You got this! And a subtle reminder to my graduating seniors: take the time to make the most of where you are currently. When you are in a new city find your new spots and become comfortable with the place you might one day want to call home.
