Five Black-Owned Brands Everyone Should Know About

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

As an avid spender, I love trying new brands and products to find a new favorite or just have a cheeky little experience with something fun. In honor of Black History Month, I wanted to compile a list of my absolute favorite Black-owned brands (all of which are woman-owned too!). So sit back, relax and trust that I’ve done all the groundwork for you.

The Honey Pot Co.

If you have a vagina, you need to become acquainted with this brand. They offer a wide variety of care products, ranging from menstrual care to hygiene, made with all-natural ingredients. Their products are all cruelty-free, recyclable and backed by gynecologists. As if all of these things weren’t great selling points, they also have a social impact branch that strives to serve “humans with vaginas who are homeless, low income or living in poverty.” You can shop online here or find Honey Pot products at your local CVS, Target or Walgreens.

Forvr Mood

Listen up, candle lovers! I am very hesitant to try anything new, especially with something so sacred as the scent of my space, so when I tell you that Forvr Mood is truly a forever mood, I mean it. Founder Jackie Aina never led me astray as a viewer, so with faith, I bought my first candle and the rest is history. They have an incredibly wide range of scents with seasonal and holiday collections. For the real candle stans, they offer a quarterly subscription box with two exclusive scents and a free gift. You can find Forvr Mood candles here, and the subscription box details here.

Partake Foods

A very unfortunate fact about me is that I am both dairy and gluten-free, not by choice. With so many food allergies and sensitivities, I struggle to find snacks and sweets like the ones I used to have before. Partake Foods’ products, especially their cookies, filled this gap in my life. All of their products are gluten-free, vegan, non-GMO and free from the top nine allergens. Their crunchy birthday cake cookies are sublime and I always have a box in the pantry. Aside from food, they also partner with organizations that help fight food insecurity or create pathways to attend an HBCU. You can shop Partake Foods here or find their products in your nearest Target or Whole Foods.

Briogeo

Let me paint a picture for you. In 2020, I tried to get a balayage and instead, I ended up with my hair falling out in clumps. Although this tragic time deeply affected me, I found a fix. Briogeo is a haircare company that creates products for a variety of hair types and textures. Their “Don’t Despair, Repair!” mask was truly my holy grail in a desperate time. I can happily say that my hair is strong, long and healthy after a year and a half of consistent treatments with Briogeo. You can find Briogeo products online or at your local Sephora.

rayo & honey

If you’re a tote bag enthusiast or a lover of positive affirmations, I have a brand for you. rayo & honey’s tagline is “goods with positive intent” and their products certainly live up to it. With hanging decorations that say “I am rooted but I flow” and pouches reading “peace within strength throughout,” they create a very calming vibe. If you’re in the market for a cute little mirror, they have one that reads “you are enough” and another one that reads “believe in who you see.” Simply and truly beautiful. You can shop rayo & honey here.
