New Artificial Intelligence Tool ChatGPT Could Be a Danger To The Present and Future

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Consider entering a series of keywords into a chat. Suddenly, your entire essay has been written out and researched for you. It could be a dream come true for students who procrastinate or lack the sufficient drive to complete an assignment on their own. You can achieve that by using Open AI’s ChatGPT, a wildly popular but controversial new AI-based tool. The language-based model of the chatbot has been designed for use with humans in a conversational approach.

According to PC Guide, it is a “pre-trained generative chat, which makes use of (NLP) Natural Language Processing.” The primary function of ChatGPT is to simulate a human response. It can, however, also write code, articles, essays, stories, poems, songs and much more. All you have to do is type the command into the chatbot and you can get original content without lifting a finger more than a couple of times.

So, the primary question is: what is the issue? It is fast to impress, innovative, helpful and does the bulk of the work. That’s a subjective question. However, truth and facts are among the many problems when analyzing the effectiveness of ChatGPT as an acceptable content tool. The AI tool, like the internet, has limitations. ChatGPT frequently fails in fundamental math, cannot answer logical questions and surrounds sentences with plausible-sounding words that are simply illogical. It’s analogous to the essays of a student who waited until the last minute to compose a paper that they know nothing about and have never attended a single lecture for. But the deadline is approaching, so they compose their paper as though they know exactly what they’re talking about. However, their writing is nonsensical. It’s a fantastic resource for breaking down difficult concepts, but it’s crucial to be skeptical of anything it says. ChatGPT frequently relies on a series of educated assumptions and doesn’t always get things right.

Bias is another issue when considering the bot. Humans have many biases and ChatGPT was trained by the writings of people from all around the world. Meaning that those same biases may be present in the responses provided. As a result, various terrible and damaging responses may be developed and disseminated. Women and minority groups are two instances of those who have been discriminated against in ChatGPT writings. With the likelihood of an AI bot producing such responses, it’s a wonder why it was even released in the first place.

Other concerns about the future emerge as well. What impact will this have on future generations? Will students need to learn to write in the future if ChatGPT can write for them? Education is only one of the many sectors that will be impacted by this chat, and real-world harms also come into play. With the rise of false social media accounts enabled by AI chatbots, internet scams have become far easier to perpetrate. Because ChatGPT can easily make incorrect answers sound correct, spreading fraudulent information becomes simpler.

With AI’s rapid implementation in recent years, where does it end? OpenAI wields far too much power, far more than any sort of technology should possess. Humans created AI technology to control themselves, not the other way around.
