Welcome new Noles! In this article, Iâll talk about and rate the dining options that Florida State University (FSU) offers as someone who has tried almost all on-campus food and dining options. FSU offers a pretty good range of variety in terms of food. There are spots closer to people living on one side of campus and different spots for people who live further away. So, itâs definitely safe to say that every dorm has different food spots close to them. Whether you decide to get a meal plan or not, Iâm sure that everyone will use the food opportunities on campus occasionally. Read along to see what I think about the food offered on our campus!
- 1851
-
My number one has to be 1851. 1851 is a dining facility within Azalea Hall containing four different restaurants (plus Starbucks) as well as several comfortable areas to sit and study in. 1851 is probably my favorite dining option at FSU because the restaurants in it offer different cuisines. Tally Mac Shack offers several types of flavor-infused Mac âN Cheese. Vato Tacos offers Latin American food such as tacos and nachos. Bento offers Asian cuisine with rice bowls, bento boxes and sushi. Tuscan Eatery offers Italian food like salads, flatbreads and more. And, you can always grab a cup of coffee and a snack from Starbucks as well!
I spent a good amount of time in 1851 this year because it was so close to my dorm and I really enjoyed grabbing my food and studying. I think that 1851 does a good job in offering a variety of food for when youâre wanting different things. Their food quality is consistently good.
- Separate Food locations
-
My second favorite dining options are all the separate food stores around the campus. These include The Den (which serves breakfast and other fast food), Chick-Fil-a, Subway, Einstein Bagels (famous for their bagels), Steak ân Shake and more. There is also a convenience store next to Chick-fil-A if you want frozen food for later. Like 1851, all these separate food places offer a good variety of food and the quality is consistent. The only thing is that most of these are in different areas of campus, so according to where you live, some of these places may be a longer walk, while some shorter.
- seminole cafe

Seminole Cafe is next on my list. Seminole Cafe is the dining facility close to residence halls like Salley and Rogers. Iâve been to Seminole Cafe occasionally this year, since it wasnât as close to my dorm as Suwannee Room. Though it is also not as new as Suwannee, I liked Seminole Cafe more. Overall, it probably has less options, but Seminole Cafe has things like sushi and more cereal options than Suwannee. However, all the times I ate there, I thought that the food quality was pretty good. Itâs still a dining hall and probably has good and bad days, but I consider it to be slightly better than Suwannee.
The environment of Seminole Cafe was calmer and less hectic than Suwannee, which tends to get more crowded. It makes it easier to enjoy and focus on your food when there isnât much going on around you or people fighting over the last piece of food, which does happen at Suwannee occasionallyâŠ
- suwannee room
-
Suwannee is a dining hall right behind William Johnston Building. Iâve probably been to Suwannee a few hundred times this year to get my moneyâs worth with the unlimited meal plan. Suwannee has several options, however, in my humble opinion, it can get tiring. The food quality is not consistent or stable. There will be some days where the food is good and some days when nothing really tastes as good or there isnât much food to eat. I sometimes like their home-cooked meals, but there are also times when itâs undercooked or bland. The dessert section is also interesting in the sense that Suwannee likes to invent its own dessert. There can be really random or overly sweet desserts that are just not enjoyable. But, Suwannee is definitely a good option for when you want some variety (as they offer salads, pizza, burgers, vegetables, meat, vegan options and more) and also to grab a bite with friends and sit down to chat. With that said, Suwannee can also get crowded since itâs a bigger dining hall.
Thatâs my list! I hope this rating has been helpful to any new students arriving at FSU! I know that when I first arrived at FSU, I didnât know much about the food options offered on-campus as well as which one was better or worse. Switching between all of these dining options can be helpful so that you donât grow tired of the food!
