Spring Break Travel Guide: The Best of Florida’s Beaches

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

It’s once again the time of year when college students ‘round the nation partake in celebrating one of their most beloved holidays: Spring Break. Known for its strategic alleviation of college class courseloads and subsequent roaring party scenes, the most stressful part about this break is often picking the right place to spend it. Florida State University (FSU) provides the wondrous advantage of being a Florida school, meaning that in nearly whichever direction you take, you’re only a drive away from the nearest beach. Here is my completely subjective list of some of the top beaches worth visiting this Spring Break.

panama city beach (pcb)

Highly regarded as a Spring Break hot spot, PCB is the ultimate destination for non-stop partyers. Not for the faint of heart, PCB can be categorized by its all-day parties littering every inch of beach, only to transition to a vibrant nightlife. For those of you who find enjoyment in the club scene dearly known in FSU’s own Tallahassee, PCB is a must-see for everyone trying to live the true college experience. Also known to have relatively low-priced hotels, food options and attractions, this beach should be a top contender for your next spring break.

Sanibel

Say, maybe, you’re NOT a huge fan of never-ending beach drinking, partying and updating your Tinder location to find guys with boats in PCB to take you and your friends out on a ride. Totally cool too, and it also makes you a bit more put-together than my roommate (JOKE, this is a JOKE). On the other side of wild and outrageous PCB comes the calm and pristine Sanibel! A quaint island off the side of my hometown, Fort Myers, this beach is a much more reserved spot perfect to find relaxation after facing the stress of the spring semester. Here, you’ll find the emphasis to be placed on its natural beauty and brilliant sunsets, a worthwhile endeavor all year round.

key west

A lengthy drive from anywhere in Florida, but despite this, Key West proves to be the best of both worlds having both a lively party scene and a classic vacation feel. Already, this island is known to be a large tourist attraction, being our southernmost point and all (the cheesiest landmark that you’re actually required to visit). It provides the vacation feel with its beach-side restaurants, over-priced train tours and souvenir shops on every corner. This family-friendly aura, however, does little to deter the wave of college kids and other casual Spring Break enjoyers from having an unforgettable (but likely to be forgotten) night.

cocoa beach

Another well-rounded option, Cocoa Beach is a great Spring Break contender for partyers and surfers alike. This beach is well regarded for its sizable waves and close proximity to many attractions (namely, Kennedy Space Center! Fun!), and during Spring Break, their lively crowds as well. This beach has something for everyone and is guaranteed to keep you and your friends entertained for your stay!

Daytona beach

A classic Spring Break venture spot, it encompasses quite an experience. While the city itself is more southern than any other Florida town I’ve ever seen, Spring Break just so happens to align with Daytona’s own Bike Week. This motorcycle rally adds a whole new element of energy and excitement to an already lively city. The boardwalk that lines the sand is the perfect place to find a place to stay or a place to eat, or perhaps try the slingshot ride along with other amusements. With clear beaches, 24/7 sounds of motorcycles and streets lined with people ready to give you airbrush glitter tattoos, Daytona is a very fun (and notably weird) and understandably popular option for your spring break on the beach.
