I used to be a notorious relationship type of gal, but I have learned that not every relationship needs to evolve into anything more serious than just a few casual dates. In my eyes, I have so much time ahead of me to find the “right” one, so I would rather dedicate my time and energy to myself and attract what is meant for me rather than chase after a bunch of “wrongs.”
In general, casual relationships are meant to be fun and easy-going. Sadly, however, we do not live in a perfect world where this is always the case. Many times, casual relationships will fail to work out because there are so many gray areas to navigate through. Therefore, in order to preserve the light-hearted nature of these relationships, here is some of my advice on how to have healthy flings.
Be open and honest with your intentions
Whenever you meet someone, it is really important to try to be as honest as you can about your intentions in the new relationship. I know it is easy to get caught up in the moment whenever you meet someone new, but it is vital to try to determine your intentions early on to avoid any possible confusion. To do this, you simply need to ask yourself “What am I willing to put into this relationship?” as well as “What am I trying to get out of this relationship?” This is beneficial to do because whenever people are straightforward with each other, it can help limit any hurt feelings. In general, being honest with your intentions in any relationship is a very emotionally mature thing to do and helps reduce any harm.
Set clear boundaries
Another good thing to do whenever you are engaging in any casual relationship is to be very specific about your boundaries in the relationship. Setting boundaries is vital in developing a healthy relationship as it ensures the protection of your and your partner’s well-being. Moreover, setting clear boundaries allows you to better understand the overall terms and agreements of the relationship.
Communicate clearlyÂ
Clear communication is vital in any casual relationship because it allows you and your partner to be on the same page. To communicate clearly requires you to be very self-aware of your personal thoughts and feelings so that you can then easily express them. Your partner will have a hard time understanding you if you are personally confused or unsure about your feelings.Â
Protect your energy and have fun
The best piece of advice that I have taken from being in several co-dependent relationships is that it is vital to protect your energy and always look out for your own personal well-being. Casual relationships are meant to be fun and enjoyable. They should not drain your energy and make you feel sad or stressed out. The moment that any relationship, especially any casual relationship, disturbs your inner peace, then you should make the best decision for yourself and walk away.Â
In all, Hot Girl Summer is officially here and I genuinely hope all of you girly bops have the best of luck with your summer flings!
