Spring break might be the best time of the year to head to the beach. The sun is shining, the sand is not too hot and it’s too early in the year for a swarm of seagulls to steal all your food. Every year, I always forget to pack something on my way to the beach, but not this year, because I made the best packing list in the history of packing lists. This doesn’t include items like bathing suits, sunscreen or towels. No, this list is filled with things that are super useful at the beach, but you might not think, “Oh, I definitely need this for the beach!”Â
1. An Umbrella
I’m starting off strong with the classic umbrella. Not only is this good for when you’ll most likely get caught in the rain (Come on y’all, it’s Florida. Of course, it’s going to rain), you can also put it in the sand to block out the sun. When it starts getting a little too hot at around three or four in the afternoon, the umbrella can be a lifesaver.Â
2. A giant beach bag
The giant beach bag is probably my favorite thing. A bag to dump everything in that you could possibly need to lay on the beach all day is super helpful, and it prevents taking trips back and forth to wherever you’re staying. A giant beach bag can also double as a headrest or a paperweight, so your towel or clothes don’t fly away with the gusty winds.
3. A Wallet that won’t get sand in it
Keys, cards and other little things that usually go in a nice wallet get thrown into a beach bag and covered in sand, or worse, lost forever. Bringing an old wallet with a strong zipper can be a great way to keep your necessities separated from the clothes, towels and snacks in the large beach bag.
4. T-Shirts
Old, oversized shirts are the best beach clothing item, and I stand by that. Shirts that almost go down to the knees are perfect to throw on for a walk down to the shore. They’re great for when your shoulders start to inevitably peel, but you want to sit in the sand for just a bit longer.
5. A trash bag
Hot girls don’t leave trash on the beach. Hot girls don’t litter. Hot girls bring a little bag to put all their trash in, and hot girls put the trash bag in the big beach bag before throwing it away at the nearest trash receptacle.
6. Headphones
People are loud, and so are birds. If the beach noises start getting a little too noisy, pop in some headphones and peace out!
7. A bucket
A bucket? Why a bucket? Well, let me answer all your bucket-related questions. A perfect beach day is not complete without building a sand structure of some kind. Yes, burying your friend counts too. A bucket not only helps to build sandcastles, but it can also be used to hold pretty shells or weigh down a corner of a blanket. Also, dumping buckets of water on your friends when you get bored is a great bonding activity that can take your friendship to a whole new level. The possibilities with a girl and her bucket are truly endless.
8. A Hairbrush
Last but not least, I’m begging you to bring a hairbrush to the beach if you have a single hair on your head. Do y’all know what detangler is? The wind at the beach is the opposite of a detangler—it’s a tangler! Bringing a hairbrush ensures that the tangles can be brushed out right when they happen and not sit in your hair for hours, or then you’ll have to chop it out with scissors. Not that I’m speaking from previous experience or anything. Trust me on this one; bring a brush!Â
I hope this beach list saves someone from tanning until they burn or chopping off a teeny bit of their hair (it’s okay, nobody’s going to notice). Have a safe and rejuvenating spring break!
