There are a lot of different ways to practice self-care. Some people take long showers, some go for a run and some meditate. Personally, I like to binge TV shows. I like getting invested in storylines and character development. It gives me a chance to engage with a fictional world with ease. According to Mashable.com, binge-watching TV shows can decrease stress, help you find meaning and insight, promote socializing and you can have a ton of fun doing it.

I recently just finished all 17 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy and was in dire need of a new show to binge-watch. So, I hopped on Amazon Prime Video and started scrolling. There were a lot of options to narrow down into a helpful watchlist. I did the hard part and found four new shows that I cannot wait to start with you.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

This Amazon original was nominated for four and won three Golden Globe Awards. The show has also been nominated four times and won twice for the Primetime Emmy Awards. The series follows a young upper-class Jewish-American housewife on her journey to becoming a career comedian in 1958 Manhattan. The show is a feminist dramedy, and season four is coming out soon.

The Man in the High Castle

This Amazon Original is an interesting one. This TV series has been nominated twelve times for the Primetime Emmy Awards. The Man in the High Castle takes place in an alternate universe where the Allies lost World War II. The United States no longer exists as the Japanese have taken control of the west coast, and the Third Reich has expanded to the east coast. Following the natural death of Hitler, the country is in political unrest as the next steps are determined. This show seems to have a darker plot, but I have heard nothing but good reviews on the storytelling skills. I know that the plot of this show will engage and enamor me.

upload

Upload is another Amazon Original TV series, a science-fiction comedy-drama taking place in 2033. The premise is that humans can now “upload” themselves into a virtual afterlife instead of dying naturally. I am really looking forward to sitting down with my weighted blanket and having a good belly laugh while watching this show!

good omens

Finally, we have yet another Amazon Original comedy, Good Omens. If I’m being perfectly honest, the first thing that caught my attention about this show is that David Tennant is starring. This show’s premise is about an angel and a demon who are forced to work together for the common good: preventing the rise of the Anti-Christ. No biggie. It’s the end of the world, and all they can do is have petty arguments and be as sarcastic as possible. I am ready to become obsessed with Good Omens. The show won the award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Long Form at the 2020 Hugo Awards.

There are so many more shows to watch on Amazon Prime Video, so which show do you plan to binge next?
