Spring Break 2011 Plans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Spring Break is just around the corner and we’ve all explored all of the options for a crazy, relaxing week off from classes. The range of options for the break spreads far and wide. However, we’re all concerned about price and safety. The Her Campus team has come up with some common reasonably priced spring break plans that are perfect for everyone!

  1. Panama City- Panama City, Florida has become one of the most popular spring break sites. Just about two hours from Tallahassee, Panama City has become one of the most well known college spring break destinations in the country. Beach houses are for available for week long rentals for as low as $200 for the week. Divide that $200 between a few friends, and you have an inexpensive fun-filled week!
  2. Cruise- At a first glance, a cruise for a whole week might seem unreasonably expensive, but they are really not! A cruise can also be one of the safest options for those concerned with the spring break horror stories you hear on the news. Using sites like cheaptickets.com can help you to find cruises for up to five nights for as low as $325 per person on major cruise lines such as Carnival or Royal Caribbean. These cruises go everywhere from the Bahamas, to Mexico, to Jamaica, to the cruise lines’ private islands. Best of all, many of these are all inclusive with meals and 24 hour restaurants that lower the cost of a regular out of the country trip immensely.
  3. New York-The Big Apple might not be the warmest or the cheapest, but there is plenty to do in the city that never sleeps! Visit the main tourist attractions such as the Empire State Building or Ground Zero, shop on 5thAvenue, or visit F.A.O Schwartz to take a trip back to your childhood. New York can be a great vacation with family or friends, since there is something for everyone to do. See a Broadway play (we hear they might get the Spiderman kinks worked out soon!) or go down to the Village to see some of the most interesting of artistic areas. For some historical background, you can take a trip over to Ellis Island where emigrants landed way back when. And if you have a chance (and a car), you can drive to upstate New York and get in some skiing at places like Camp Gaw, which is only about an hour and a half from the city. It’s perfect for beginners and always available, since the lodge produces its own snow! Additionally, to stay economically friendly, visit http://www.nytix.com/ThingsToDo/thingstodo.htmlfor a list of 21 free attractions in New York City! You can get free tickets to a television show or a free tour guide. No matter what, New York City offers something for everyone!
  4. Miami- Just a seven hour drive from Tallahassee, a relaxing week of nothing but the sand and sun could be just what you need this spring break! For those of us that live close enough to South Beach (or have friends who do) this is the cheapest way to go for a great spring break vacation! Stay with a friend or in your own house and take day trips to Lincoln Road, a great tourist spot with some of the best people watching, and go down to the clubs like LIV at Fountaine Bleu at night! Enjoy Miami culture on Calle Ocho or Espanola Way with jewelry shops and items that you’ll find nowhere else! Treat yourself to the spa at the Ritz Carlton or a nice dinner at Prime 112. Miami is a whole other world in itself, so go jet ski through some of the most beautiful areas of the country or cruise down the beach on a moped to experience a culture unlike any other!
