Her Campus (HC): What is your favorite thing about being an RA?
Tamar Benjoseph (TB): I really like being there when people are in a time of need and having that be my full-time job. The job is something I have been able to learn a lot from. I have learned about communication, people and myself. I am really grateful that I get to grow everyday by talking to residents, working on a staff of eighteen people and working under two bosses. It gives you a really dynamic life.
HC: What piece of advice do you give the most often to your freshman residents?
TB: Don’t drink in the hall and don’t tear down my decorations! Also, only keep people in your life that better you, and explore as much as possible in the first year so you can find your footing at Florida State.
HC: What would your ideal date involve?
TB: First, we make PB&J sandwiches, and then we get dressed up real fancy and go to a musical, which we will enjoy, and then we will ride off into the sunset. Really, any date, as long as there is PB&J because those are the key to my heart.
HC: What do you look for in a partner?
TB: I look for someone who has goals. Someone who is confident in their skills. Someone who I can challenge and who challenges me.
HC: If you could date any late night host, who would it be?
TB: Definitely Jimmy Fallon. Why? Because he is the perfect man and he is humble.
(HC): You have worked closely with tony-nominated Broadway legend, Terence Mann. Tell us how you got involved with his performance intensive: Triple Arts.
(TB): I got involved because I went to his intensive in New York back when I was performing in theatre regularly. After the intensive I sent him a hand-written letter thanking him for the experience. After receiving the letter he emailed asking if he could quote me on his website and once I had his email, I asked if I could be involved on the administrative side and help him run the program. He said yes! I was about 18 at the time and I have been with them ever since.
HC: What does Triple Arts do?
TB: Triple Arts has two, two-week summer intensives. One is in New York City and one at Western Carolina University. They do about 10-13 hours a day of musical theatre training leading up to a showcase at the end of the two weeks. Guests come in to teach. Terry and Charlotte (his wife) both teach at the intensive and it’s probably the best experience for anyone looking to be a performer on Broadway.Â
HC: So since you are really involved with theatre, tell us about the best play you’ve seen recently.
TB: Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I saw it when I was studying abroad in London this summer and it was the most intense audio-visual experience I have ever had. I was shocked by the amount of technology they used!
HC: What other organizations are you involved with?
TB: Along with being an RA, I am in EĆ©A, which is an international co-ed service fraternity. I am also on the Seminole Ladies Ultimate Team.
HC: What is the best thing about playing ultimate?
TB: The best thing is that it is a sport that you can actually get better at. You need zero athletic ability to play, and I am exhibit A of that fact.Â
HC: Wow, you’re busy! What do you like to do in the little free time you have?
TB: Cry in the shower. But actually: I go to the gym and cook a lot and hang out with my wonderful friends.
HC: If you were able to go anywhere after hours (museum, historical site, target) where would it be?
TB: Without a doubt: Trader Joes. I would create a slip n’ slide out of cookie butter.
HC: Where will you ideally be in 15 years?
TB: I would like to be in Boston managing a theatre (not a movie theatre, you buffoons) or owning a restaurant.
HC: Life motto?
TB: I have a gym quote that also applies to life. My trainer yelled this in my face one time and I really took it to heart (and by that I mean I teared up a bit): “When it hurts, do five more.”
