It’s about that time for a Halloween movie marathon! While you may watch horror movies, what about a feel-good throwback? Time to either put on that costume or put on some PJ’s and get some candy. Here are some of my go-to Halloween movies from Disney’s “Monstober” and more.
My Special Mentions
Sometimes watching a show or movie from when I was younger can put me in a good mood. So, here are some of my old go-to Halloween movies.
HALLOWEENTOWN SERIES
The Halloweentown series has a total of four movies: Halloweentown, Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, Halloweentown High, and Return to Halloweentown. Marnie Piper, who discovers she is a witch at 13, and her siblings follow their grandma, Aggie Cromwell, to her home Halloweentown. In Halloweentown, we are introduced to many more different students such as other witches, goblins, werewolves, vampires, ogres, ghosts and more. They learn to navigate Halloweentown and solve the problem of the respective movie.
TWITCHES SERIES
The Twitches series follows Alex Fielding (Artemis) and Camryn Barnes (Apolla) who are twin sisters separated at birth. They find their way back to each other on their 21st birthday only to find out that they have magic powers and are being attacked by the darkness (Thanatos). In order to protect themselves and their homeland, they need to navigate their powers, work together and save Coventry, their homeland, from the darkness.
HARRY POTTER SERIES
As most know, the Harry Potter series consists of eight movies. It follows Harry Potter, who is often seen with his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, on his journey to defeat Lord Voldemort who is after him after failing to kill Harry as a baby, amongst other things. A lot is going on in this series and too much to summarize, but it is highly recommended to check it out!
MOSTLY GHOSTLY SERIES
There are three Mostly Ghostly movies, although, I will only be talking about the first two. Mostly Ghostly: Who Let the Ghost Out? and Mostly Ghostly: Have You Met My Ghoulfriend? These movies are about Max Doyle and two ghosts, Nicky and Tara, who used to live in his house, as they try to help him navigate life and defeat Phears before he takes over the world.
monster house
In all honesty, this movie used to creep me out as a kid—how could the house be alive? Characters DJ, Chowder and Jenny try to retrieve their basketball from the neighbor’s lawn only to discover the house is alive and is out to attack. With the adults not believing them, they set out to destroy it, but end up getting eaten in the process. To find out if, and how, they get out, you should definitely watch.
TIM BURTON’S THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
Lastly, I have included The Nightmare Before Christmas, which I watch around Halloween and Christmas. Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween Town, becomes slightly tired of his holiday and stumbles upon doorways to other holidays. He goes through one that leads to Christmas Town and becomes fascinated with the holiday and its items. Jack takes over Christmas, which doesn’t end well, and then releases Santa to fix it. In the end, Halloween Town gets a little Christmas and we get the banger song “This Is Halloween.”
