If you’re like me you thought this extra time to yourself would be amazing, but right about now you’ve already run through all of your quarantine snacks, your siblings are driving you crazy and you’re missing all of your friends. Also, if you’re stuck alone during this time you may be feeling like you should text your ex or message that guy back on tinder; but who needs that when you have the perfect girl gang that will binge-watch TV with you over Netflix Party? To keep you from making decisions you’re sure to regret later, I have the perfect show for you to watch that helps highlight the importance of a strong female group.

The Bold Type

Rating: 9/10

Where to Watch: Hulu/Xfinity

How Long: 3 Seasons 10 Episodes

Status: Has not been Renewed or Cancelled for Season 5

The Bold Type follows writer Jane Sloan, social media editor Kat Edison, and assistant Sutton Brady as they attempt to navigate their personal and professional lives in New York City, working for the women’s magazine, Scarlett. Through the drama, tears and heartbreak, what makes the show special is the bond between the three girls. No matter how much they fight or whatever they are going through, they’re always there for each other to drink it out in the fashion closet or pretty much anywhere.

Besides their relationship, what makes the show unique is their ability to tackle critical social issues while remaining entertaining. In their four seasons, they have already addressed issues such as the #MeToo movement, gun control, LGBTQ+ rights, and immigration.

What makes this show the perfect one to watch with you girl gang you may ask (through Netflix Party because we’re all social distancing)? The answer is the relationship between Kat, Jane and Sutton and the chemistry on and off the screen between these actresses. A big reason I started the show was because of how empowering the women are, and I mean come on who wouldn’t want to be a boss babe working at a women’s magazine in New York City, so I live vicariously through them every week. If you’re looking for a show that talks about important issues but still has the ability to make you laugh to you cry or cry to you laugh, then The Bold Type is for you.

Since I’ve joined HerCampus, I can’t help but see our own executive board as these powerful women that get stuff done, much like the women on The Bold Type.

Jane

The Janes of our girl gang are Kassandra and Hannah. They are the more innocent one of the groups but still have some sass. Incredibly smart and talented and are definitely the one to go to if you’re in need of REASONABLE advice or if you just need someone to listen to your problems and be there for you.

Kat

Gabi and Anneliese resemble more of Kat’s character. Three words to describe them are confident, bold, and unique. They don’t take BS from anyone, but they also have a soft and quirky side to them. They always stand up for what they believe no matter the consequences, and they’re still there for their friends, whether it’s to give them a confidence boost or to tell them like it is.

Sutton

The Suttons are Tawnie and Lauren. The first thing that comes to their mind, they’re more than likely to say it. They’re the goofy and blunt one out of the friend group, but they’re also ready to be mama-bear if need be. They’re super supportive and funny and definitely the one to go to if you’re ever feeling down.

Combo

Katarina and Selena’s personalities can’t be boxed in with just one character; instead, they are the perfect combination of Kat and Sutton. They are both bold and confident but also funny and quirky. They are ready to fight for their friends and what they believe in.
