Her Campus (HC): How long have you been a Graduate Assistant for the FSU Sand Volleyball Team?
Tyler Berry (TB): This will be second year with the FSU Sand Program and my last semester in graduate school.
HC: What is your favorite part about working within such a successful program?
TB: I love the healthy, outdoor atmosphere it promotes. It’s not a bad job when my work involves being outside and traveling to a bunch of different beaches across the US.
HC: If you could travel anywhere you wanted, where would it be and why?
TB: I would definitely go to Australia because I’ve heard it’s amazing there and I love their accents. I’ve never been out of the country and it’s one of my biggest regrets so far!
HC: How long have you been involved in the sport of volleyball?
TB: I started playing in middle school but didn’t start training or competing competitively until my sophomore year of high school. As far as beach volleyball goes, I picked that up late as well and have only really been playing for a couple years now.
HC: What do you want to do with a career in Sports Management?
TB: I want to continue working in the volleyball community and I’ve actually accepted a job with the National Volleyball League (NVL), which is a professional beach volleyball tour that travels across the USA.
HC: What are your top three favorite restaurants in Tallahassee?
TB: They would have to be Bada Bean, Gordo’s, and Bird’s Oyster Shack.
HC: What is one of your pet peeves?
TB: I freak out in bumper-to-bumper traffic…I also can’t stand flamingos.
HC: If you could only keep 5 things from your entire house what would they be and why?
TB: I would keep my Keurig Machine, a beach volleyball, my laptop, an air mattress, and a TV.
HC: What does the rest of the Sand Volleyball Season look like for the FSU team?
TB: We qualified for the national championships and feel really good about where we are as a team right now. We have one more week to prepare and make an impact at the national tournament.
HC: If you had one piece of advice for students who are looking to apply to Grad school, what would it be?
TB: I would tell them to try and get as much professional experience as possible. Whether it’s volunteer, internships, or paid positions, getting real-life experience in your desired field will go a long way towards preparing you for your career.
