Meet the Toros Locos: three friends (Tyler Roberts, Seth Brotherton and Chris Dabner) who decided to form their own team and participate in the Red Bull “Can You Make It?” Challenge. I had the chance to talk to Toros Locos member Tyler Roberts about his team and how this intense challenge works.

Her Campus (HC): Can you tell our readers what exactly the Red Bull Challenge is?
Tyler Roberts (TR): It’s pretty much a seven-day trek across Europe using only Red Bull as currency and you can’t use your phone, your wallet or anything like that, you can only barter using 24 cans of Red Bull that they start you with. And then there are six different checkpoints and once you reach each checkpoint they give you more Red Bull to barter with, so essentially you’re bartering for food, transportation, a place to stay and all that kind of good stuff.
HC: Wow, that sounds really cool! How did you guys find out about this challenge?
TR: One of the Red Bull representatives came into our class and my one teammate Chris is also in the class. They came and talked to us and we got super stoked about it.
HC: What sparked your interest in participating?
TR: Well, it seemed really cool, so I told my roommate Seth about it and the three of us decided to form a team – and that’s kind of what peaked our interest in it.
HC: Tell us a bit about your team name Toros Locos. How did you guys come up with that?
TR: We wanted to have a name very applicable to the Red Bull name so definitely “Bull” (“Toro”). Then Seth’s girlfriend actually came up with the Locos part.

HC: Why should people vote for your team to win?
TR: So, essentially Seth and I, we studied abroad in Spain – I studied abroad for eight months, he studied abroad for a year. He also studied in Florence, so we’re literally just trying to find a way back to Europe. We’re super stoked about the whole competition, and plus it’s like a new adventure. It’s much crazier than just studying abroad. I guess what makes us unique is kind of the aspect that my one teammate Chris speaks French, while Seth and I speak conversational Spanish so we can get around pretty well. In addition to that, we’re all from different places – Seth is from New Orleans, Chris is from Toronto, Canada and I’m from Nassau, Bahamas – so we’re very diverse people from where we are in the world.
HC: That is so interesting! I’ve actually studied abroad myself, but in London, and ever since I got back, I’ve been dying to go back to Europe.
TR: Exactly! Yeah, you get that travel bug!
HC: Where in Europe does this challenge take place?
TR: The ultimate destination is Paris and there are six different checkpoints that they start you from, but they don’t tell you which checkpoint you’re starting from until you get there. From where ever you start you go to those six points and then you end in Paris.
HC: Where can readers go if they want to learn more about your team?
TR: There’s actually a link to our team page and all of us made a YouTube video, which is on our page as well.
