You’re Not Lame for Going Home for Break and Here’s Why

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at FSU chapter.

Spring break might have a reputation for wild parties, beaches and all-out craziness but if you are going home for spring break, that does not make you lame in any way. There are many awesome #perks to going home for spring break and this is why:

1. HOME. COOKED. MEALS.

Real, non-dining hall food. A normal sized fridge and pantry full of all your favorite foods. Parents spoiling you into getting second and third helpings of comforting meals. What more could you want?

2. Sleeping in your Own Bed

Ahh, sleep. Real sleep. Not college sleep. The kind of sleep that comes from sleeping in the bed that you grew up sleeping in. The kind of sleep where you don’t have to worry about extra loud people on your floor coming back from a night out. The kind of sleep where you don’t have to wake up for an 8 am or exam the next day. Pure, blissful SLEEP!

3. Spending Quality Time with Family and Friends

Going to college is great because you are on your own, but you can’t deny that at least a little bit, you miss your family, if not them at least your high school friends. Coming home from midterms and spring semester (which always seems to be more challenging than fall semester) is a nice relief and a breath of fresh air.

4. Personal ~Space~

College is great because you get to meet and become close to so many people in such a short period of time but sometimes it seems as if you have no alone time or own personal space. Going home helps to redefine your personal bubble.

5. PETS

Okay this one says it all, but there is nothing I love more than coming home to my pup and all of her excitement, not to mention the countless kisses and tail wags. There’s something about a pet that puts a smile on your face immediately whether you have a dog, cat or even a fish.

6. Being as Far Away from the Library as Possible for a Solid Week

This one kind of goes without saying but there is something so refreshing about a week of not spending your free time in Strozier or Dirac, cramming for that exam or trying to find the motivation to write that paper.

7. You’ll Get the Spring Break Body You Always Wanted

Ahh yes, a spring break bod that’s full of girl-scout cookies and momma’s cooking. Not to mention restful sleep and a stress-free week. TBH, what’s better than that?

8. You’re Letting Your Body Recover from the Semester and Prepping Yourself for What’s Ahead

Midterms just ended (hopefully), but that doesn’t mean its smooth sailing for the rest of the semester. After you come back from Spring Break, there are only a few weeks before finals destroy your life. It’s healthy to take a week and give yourself some R&R and clear your head before you go back to school and start again.

So if you have FOMO about not going on a cruise, to the Bahamas or any “cool” place during spring break… DON’T. Spring Break is what you make of it and your spring break is going to be well spent. You are getting to relax, enjoy home cooked meals, personal space and experience little to no stress. Life moves pretty fast, so its okay to take it slow and steady and have a ~chill~, stress-free break.
