Meet this week’s Campus Celebrity: Lauren Sapp
Â
Lauren is a senior, mass communication major from Louisville, Ga. Now, many of you ATLiens or “North Georgia” kids have probably never heard of this little town about 45 minutes away from Milledgeville, so here is a little fun trivia fact for you. Louisville was the very first permanent capital of the state of Georgia.  Who knew? Now I thought it was cool knowing Milledgeville was a capital in Georgia.Â
As this small town girl arrived at Georgia College in August of 2012, she realized she wanted to invest her time well and get involved. Naturally, Lauren is not an outgoing person when you first meet her. However, she knew that in order to develop friendships and put down roots in Milledgeville, getting involved was the way to accomplish these goals. She loved helping others, so Phi Mu and GC Miracle were great opportunities for her. Little did she know how much of an impact they would have on her college career and shaping her into the person she is today.Â
As a member of Phi Mu, Lauren has served as philanthropy assistant and on the executive board as philanthropy chair. As philanthropy assistant and philanthropy chair, Lauren organized events to raise awareness and money for Children’s Miracle Network, Phi Mu’s philanthropy. CMN is a national network that supports children’s hospitals all around the country. Through Lauren’s experience in Phi Mu with CMN, Lauren has developed a love and passion for serving sick children and their families. She then joined GC Miracle her junior year and joined the executive board as the hospital & family relations chair. GC Miracle plans and executes an event called Dance Marathon. Dance Marathon is a 12 hour, dancing event where people come together and support CMN. Currently, GC Miracle is the largest student led fundraiser on campus. In her senior year, she is the internal branch chair, overseeing 12 people. When Lauren looks back on her experience with CMN, she says the best part is “meeting the kids and hearing their stories. Also seeing the impact we have on their lives and the impact they have on ours.”
Not only is Lauren involved in Phi Mu and GC Miracle, but she is also a member of PRSSA and works at Peach State Nursing agency. In her free time, Lauren likes to play intramurals and watch Netflix. When I talked with Lauren about life post Georgia College, she said she hopes to be “fundraising at a children’s hospital.”
When asked if she had any advice to freshmen, she said “to get involved and find your passion”.Â
