Interview
Her Campus: Where did you grow up?
Maralyn Quinones: I’m originally from the Bronx and spent 3 years in Memphis before coming to Georgia for high school and college.
Â
HC: Why did you choose Georgia College?
MQ: I chose Georgia College because it’s the only school that I instantly felt right where I was supposed to be. I felt at home and I still feel at home every day.
Â
HC: Why did you become a theatre major?
MQ: I became a theatre major because I love being able to make a show come to life.
Â
HC: What is your favorite aspect of theatre to work in and why?
MQ: I’ve been on the stage management and sound side mostly but I really want to end up being a scene designer or director. I feel like these two roles are major ways to put yourself inside the world of a play and that’s what interests me most about theatre.
Â
HC: Favorite show you’ve worked on here at Georgia College?
MQ: My favorite show I’ve worked on was probably The Ballad of Emmett Till. It was so great to see a historical event be presented in such an abstract way with an ensemble cast playing multiple roles.
Â
HC: Did you ever consider any other majors? Why/why not?
MQ: I considered journalism, but who hasn’t? I wanted to write reviews for shows because I definitely always wanted to be in the theatre world but it wasn’t until my senior year of high school that, even though I was extremely active in theatre all 4 years, I actually considered theatre as a career path. I knew from the moment my theatre teacher talked to me about her theatre degree how much I wanted to just go for it.
Â
HC: Favorite Activity outside of theatre?
MQ: I love being in a fantasy football league. It definitely pumps up my competitive side.
Â
HC:Â Tell me a fun fact about you!
MQ: I snort uncontrollably when I laugh.
Â
HC: Tell me fun fact from you!
MQ: Gorillas can catch a cold from a human!
