For young couples working towards their individual goals and pursuing their passions, date nights may prove to be hard to budget for. You want to be able to spoil your partner and take them on dates that will excite the two of you but at the same time, you have financial responsibilities. Between paying for college, buying groceries, paying bills, and all the other financial tolls you may encounter, sometimes expensive date nights just are not a reality and that is completely okay. You don’t need to break the bank to go on special dates with your partner and to make them feel loved and excited. Here are some inexpensive and unique things you and your significant other can try to keep date night fun!

Feed Ducks at your local pond

This can be a very special and fun experience for you and your partner! Ducks are typically very friendly creatures, and if you have an animal-lover boyfriend or girlfriend, this may be just for you. They will be very thankful that you are presenting this idea, and they are sure to love a day spent in the park with you and some adorably hungry ducks. This may be a great opportunity to pack a picnic together and bring the scraps with you just for the ducks because nothing says ‘I love you’ quite like a meal shared together on a peaceful afternoon by the pond.

Build Something Together

Whether it be legos, a home renovation, or a DIY project you both love, building something together can make for a great date night while also accomplishing something that may have needed to get done. Building together takes teamwork and communication, two very important aspects of any relationship. Getting the chance to exercise these skills is a fun and meaningful way to show your love. Your partner might have something they have been wanting to build and accomplish for a while, so suggesting you build it together is both helpful to them and provides a great experience for the two of you to showcase the team you are.

Go on a Sunrise Hike

This one might be a personal favorite; there is something so special about starting the day off in a peaceful environment with such a nice view with just you and your partner. For Christian couples, this may be a great opportunity to really sit in the presence of God together and listen to what He has to say to both of you. Bring a couple of blankets, wear some comfy clothes, and bring a pair of headphones to share to listen to some music together for a great morning date.

Try a New Recipe Together

Food has a special place in people’s hearts, and preparing a meal together can be a fun and intimate experience with your partner, especially for those inclined to prefer acts of service. Preparing a meal together is serving each other at the same time while also having fun together. Pick out a new recipe you both like and take turns serving each other at the end of its preparation to really illustrate your love.

Teach Each Other Something New

Chances are that both of you possess skills the other may not. You both are unique individuals that can learn from each other, and teaching your partner something new is a great way for you to get more connected and to get them excited about a new skill. This may also be a great opportunity to get your partner involved with your own hobbies! Whether it be yoga, a game you’re particularly good at, an instrument, building skill, or whatever else, surely your partner will love to see what makes you happy and learn something new in the process.

Go Stargazing

Stargazing is a classic staple in the dating world, and that’s for a good reason. Watching the beautiful sky with your partner is an opportunity to observe their beauty in the moonlight, and it creates a space for deep, meaningful conversations. Relationships are built upon communication and trust. Entering a space that allows for intimate and raw conversation is so important, and it will make both you and your partner feel understood within the context of your relationship.

Go on a Camping Trip

For those outdoorsy couples, a camping trip may be the perfect getaway for the two of you! Pack up your tent, some firewood, and a couple of sleeping bags and you’re set for a romantic night under the stars with your favorite person. What could be better than a cuddle sesh by the fire?

Take Online Quizzes Together

Constantly learning new things about your partner is so fun and is one of the best things about being together. As you get closer, you learn more and more about each other, but you should never stop learning! Taking online quizzes together such as love language tests, personality quizzes, and even the “what kind of animal would you be?” quizzes are all great opportunities to learn more about your love and spark interesting conversations that spur healthy communication.

Take Turns Picking Funny Youtube Videos

Humor is the way to the heart and there is nothing better than a quality laugh together. Taking turns picking funny, stupid videos is a good chance for you both to take things less seriously and really focus on the lighthearted fun that comes with being together.

Pick Out Outfits for each other

Make date night adventurous and exciting by either going to a thrift store and picking out outfits for each other for the date of your choice or simply making this itself the date. Going off on your own to pick out an outfit you think your partner will either love or laugh at and then coming together to showcase the outfits is a great idea for couples that want to have a good laugh together. Bonus points if you and your partner actually try on and wear the chosen outfits!

Go House-Hunting

There are plenty of opportunities for open house events or touring model homes together. This can be especially fun for couples that don’t have any intention of moving in together for a while because it gives you guys something to look forward to in the future and an opportunity to talk about different aspects of a house or living together that you might not have communicated before.

Bust out the kiddie pool and get some packs of water balloons and take turns pelting them at each other for a lighthearted and fun date. This playful activity gives you both a chance to unwind and let your inner child loose, which is very special and fun to do together!

Regardless of which of these dates you decide to try out, surely you and your partner will have a great time together no matter what you do. These suggestions are meant to encourage the two of you to have fun and remember to take things less seriously sometimes. Relationships are serious, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have tons of fun together!
