5 Qualities All Interesting People Have in Common

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GCU chapter.

We all know the people in our lives that seem to have extra captivating qualities that make them stand out a little bit more than your average Joe. Sometimes these things are hard to point out specifically. Whether it’s their way of speaking and drawing in an audience, or if it’s their passion for something that really excites them, these people are among us all. You may ask what it is about these people that sets them apart, and why can’t you be like this? Well the answer is simple – it’s a few simple things that anyone can be more aware of to add more excitement to their character.

1. A Passion for Something

People with a passionate heart for something have a certain level of depth and love to them. Whether it is about sustainability for the earth or even just a football team, anyone can be passionate about anything. Showing people that you are passionate shows them your caring qualities. This could include love, devotion, and commitment. These things are what others not only find attractive, but also highly respectable.

2. Storytelling

When you know somebody that is a good storyteller, you know that they are able to draw in a crowd. For this reason, exactly, is why these people are found more interesting to others around them. One’s ability to tell a story and bring out the emotions of the ones listening is a character trait that is highly intriguing to others. This also gives people the feeling of excitement and makes them associate these feelings with this person.

3. A Good Listener

We all know that everyone likes to talk about themselves, but what if we cared more about what comes out of the mouths of others? 75% of the time that we are listening to someone, we are preoccupied or forgetful. Ultimately, this shows a lot about people as a whole and how much of a struggle it is for us to actually listen. Making a small shift to just relax and simply listen to what someone says without thinking of your reply next time you talk with someone can be helpful for both you and them. This allows you to gain more knowledge about them and for you to become more of an interesting person.

4. Unspoken Confidence

Though this one is not nearly as easy or simple to achieve, it is something that plays a huge role in making a person interesting. Confidence is not something that is achievable in the tap of a button. No matter what anybody tells you, there is no secret or life hack for being confident. Confidence is being comfortable in who you are no matter the opinions of others, the situation you’re in, or who you’re around. The cool thing about confidence is that it looks different on everyone. When someone silently exudes confidence in themselves, it is easy for others to see and appreciate.

5. Having the Right Amount of Optimism

There are many ways you can fix your mindset to think on the bright side, but it’s really about training yourself to dislike talking/hearing about the negative things. Having a different perspective on situations than maybe the average person has, is unique and can be captivating to others. Optimism has been proven to be attractive. Even more than that, pessimism has been highly proven to be unattractive. This is why people who have a predominantly optimistic outlook on life are interesting to those around them.

We all are interesting and unique in our own ways. Sometimes this is hard for us to see ourselves. Though nobody has to change for the sake of others, there is always something that we can be working toward or improving on about ourselves. These qualities are just a few things that anyone can easily think about or work on to better themselves.

Hi there! My name is Lauren! I am an incoming freshman and will be studying marketing at GCU. I've lived in northern Arizona most of my life, but I was born in San Francisco, CA. I've always had a passion for being creative and have enjoyed doing things like singing, painting, and writing for as long as I can remember. Most days you'll find me with my big yellow hydro flask in hand probably talking about Taylor Swift. I hope to put a smile on your face with my writing, and to portray the love of Jesus in all that I do!
