Everything You Need to Know About Taylor Swift’s Midnights

Taylor Swift released her 10th studio album on Friday, October 21st and fans are freaking out. Leading up to the release, she posted small videos announcing each song title individually, but she never released any singles so fans didn’t quite know what to expect. She teased the release with the slogan “meet me at midnight,” and that’s exactly what fans did.

meeting her at midnight

The first song on Midnights is called “Lavender Haze” and it does a great job setting the tone for the whole album. The first lyrics are “meet me at midnight” which is exactly what fans were doing.

The album in general was something many people were not expecting. Coming from her release of Folklore and Evermore which were full of very indie-folk acoustic songs, Midnights was completely different. It is a very chill pop album bringing out elements from some of her old albums like 1989, Reputation, and Lover.

The album is based on 13 sleepless nights that she has had throughout her life. She reflects on many things during this album like falling in love, questions that keep her up at night, personal feelings about herself, and past loves.

her very chaotic surprise

During the Midnights release week, Taylor mentioned that she had a “special very chaotic surprise” at 3 am EST following her release of the album. Fans began wondering what the surprise was, and many fan theories were created. Many people thought that she was going to announce tour dates, or maybe even drop another rerecorded album, but she surprised us all by releasing a 3am edition of Midnights with 7 extra songs, a surprise consistent with her newfound style of releasing tracks “From The Vault” with her rerecorded albums.

midnights song lyrics

As most fans know Taylor is known for her lyricism and poetic storytelling when writing songs. Here are my top 5 Midnights song lyrics.

Maroon

The rust that grew between telephones
The lips I used to call home
So scarlet, it was maroon

You’re on your own, kid

From sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes
I waited ages to see you there
I search the party of better bodies
Just to learn that you never cared

Question… ?

Can I ask you a question?
Did you ever have someone kiss you in a crowded room
And every single one of your friends was making fun of you
But fifteen seconds latеr, they were clapping, too?
Thеn what did you do?

Labyrinth

It only feels this raw right now
Lost in the labyrinth of my mind
Break up, break free, break through, break down
You would break your back to make me break a smile

Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve

I can’t let this go
I fight with you in my sleep
The wound won’t close
I keep on waiting for a sign
I regret you all the time
