Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, which can mean a lot of things for different people. For some who are happily in a relationship, this holiday is a time to celebrate their love by doing something special for their significant others. However, for those who are finding themselves single this Valentine’s Day, this can be a tough holiday marked by loneliness and boxes of chocolate we have to buy ourselves. Just because you are single does not mean you cannot enjoy celebrating this day of love, even if that means just showing yourself a little bit of self-love that day. So here are a few ways for all the single ladies out there to embrace Valentine’s day like they would in Parks and Rec by “treating yo’ self.”

1. Pamper Yo’ Self with a Spa Day

While you are single, you might not be brought flowers and given a back rub. Enjoy spending your Valentine’s Day getting pampered. Take advantage of all the “me” time that comes with singleness by treating yourself to spa day. Whether you splurge at a spa with massages and manicures, or just put on a facemask and take a bubble bath at home, embrace spending time by yourself relaxing and enjoying your own company.

2. Celebrate Galentine’s Day with your Girlfriends

Who says Valentine’s Day has to just be about romantic love? Instead, turn your Valentine’s Day into a Galentine’s Day and celebrate the girlfriends in your life. Gather up a group of your friends and go out to a brunch, spend a night out on the town, or go wherever it is that you will be able to share some laughs and make new memories. Spending time with your favorite girls will be a reminder of just how blessed you are to be surrounded by such wonderful people in life.

3. Have a Movie Marathon

Beat the blues of being alone on Valentine’s Day by spending it with your favorite movie characters or your celebrity crush and have a movie marathon. Invite some of your friends over so you can swoon over Zac Efron and Leonardo DiCaprio together, or break out the tissues to bawl your eyes out during The Notebook. Spending a night curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn will be the perfect way to enjoy yourself by escaping the craziness of reality for a little while.

4. Go on a Shopping Spree

It may be clichĂ©, but for many girls there is no better way to treat themselves than by going out shopping. Many stores will be running special Valentine’s Day sales, so take some of the money you would’ve spent buying a gift for your significant other and instead splurge a little on yourself with a new pair of shoes or an eyeshadow palette. And if you don’t feel like leaving the couch, cozy up under a blanket and go online shopping. Get in on the latest subscription box craze by ordering a Birchbox or StichFix, or just go onto Redbubble and binge buy some stickers for your laptop.

No matter how you decide to spend this Valentine’s Day, don’t let this holiday just be a reminder of how alone you might feel. Instead, take back this day and let it be a way to empower yourself by remembering that you are a strong and beautiful woman worthy of being loved even if you don’t have a significant other. So enjoy yourself this Valentine’s Day and don’t forget to treat yo’ self.
