With Black Friday just two weeks ago and the Christmas season right around the corner, the buying of clothes, shoes, and electronics is a typical phenomenon. At what point do we go from being a normal consumer to a complete shopaholic? I mean everyone enjoys shopping, whether you spend hours at the mall or you’re in and out. That fact that you get to come home with something new is a kind of rush. However, is it to the point that you’ve taken it too far?
Here are 12 questions to ask yourself to see if you’re a shopaholic.
1. Do you buy the same item but in different colors?
2. Do you buy items that you know you’ll use many once or twice?
3. Did you buy something knowing you don’t have enough money in your account but it was too cute to pass up on?
4. Have you ever bought something for someone else as gift and then went back and bought one for yourself because you thought you needed one too?
5. Do you own the same article of clothing or accessory but in a slightly different alteration?
6. Have you ever chosen to buy clothes over food?
7. Do you know the hours of operation to your favorite stores?
8. Do you describe your location in proximity to a clothing store?
9. Are you that one friend that keeps up with all the sales in store and online?
10. Do your friends go to you when they need information about anything shopping-related?
11. Everyday do you think “I have nothing to wear” when your clothes is overflowing with clothes?
12. Do you still go shopping even though you have clothes with the tags still on them?
Well if you answered yes to most of these, then you ARE a shopaholic. Your wallet as been trying to get your attention, but has failed. Now your credit card bill looks like a zip code. It’s time to put those cards away and take a moment to acknowledge that you need to go from shop until you drop to just drop shopping for a while. Though it may be for therapeutic reasons, try substitution shopping with working out or even try window shopping (if you’re strong enough). Don’t let the holidays marketability get to you. This holiday season gift yourself with by sparing your wallet.
