In 1990, Women’s Studies was approved as the first “intercollegiate” minor and began offering courses at George Mason. The program has since grown extensively and now offers a wide range of classes, as well as other events around campus. Here are five reasons why you should make sure to check out the Women and Gender Studies Center this semester.
1. They offer free printing
If you are a Women and Gender Studies minor/major/master/certificate student OR just taking a Women and Gender Studies course this semester, you can apply for free printing and print up to 20 pages a day in the Women and Gender Studies Center!
2. They host a ton a free events
From participating in Take Back the Night to a Pizza Party and Finals Study Break, there is something to do almost every week. You can find a full list of events happening this semester here.
3. It’s a safe place
Regardless of your gender expression and identity, race, economic status, sex, sexuality, ethnicity, national origin, first language, religion, age or ability, this is a safe space to come make new friends, study and feel welcome. You can read their full statement on diversity and inclusion here.
4. There’s a TV and free Netflix!
Got a few minutes in between classes or need a break from studying? The Women and Gender Studies Center has a flat screen TV and free Netflix for students to come watch at any time, as well as a coffee maker and microwave for visitors.
5. There’s a library of over 2,000 books
Interested in learning more about women and gender studies? Love reading? Make sure to check out the library the center has. You can check books out for up to 3 weeks at a time or read on one of the comfy couches in the center!
