Beauty, brains, and pure talent, freshman Catie Lee is the epitome of reaching success after endless amounts of hard work. While being a full-time college student at George Mason, Catie also is producing music, and maintaining her YouTube channel.

She was able to give us some more details about herself and what she strives for as an artist!

How long have you been singing?

I’ve been singing ever since I remember but I started really performing when I was around nine.

What brought you to Mason?

Mason has one of the best music schools in Virginia, so that was extremely appealing. It was also convenient because it is next to Union station, and that’s how I get to New York City when I record.

Why AOII?

I chose AOII because these girls made me feel so at home and so loved even before I knew them. Other sororities were appealing, but the friendly and welcoming atmosphere of AOII made the decision almost undeniable.

What is your major?

I am currently majoring in music technology (producing) but I’m switching to a communications major because being a music major is far too tedious and conflicts with my outside-of-school schedule.

What are your career goals?

I want to help change the world for the better through my music

What is, in your opinion, your biggest accomplishment with music?

I think my biggest accomplishment so far was either getting over 4 million views on my cover of The Hills or getting signed to my production team Grand Entertainment, and working with David Miller!

If you could collaborate/work with anyone, who would it be?

I want to collaborate with The Weekend, hands down. Either him, or Drake!

What is your favorite song that you have covered or created?

I have one song called “Wanna Love” that hasn’t been released yet, but it’s going to be when the timing is right. My close friends know the words to it and sometimes I’ll catch them singing it randomly!

What is one thing people don’t know about you?

I really like cottage cheese… People think it’s so gross but, haters gonna hate. Also, I can eat a chipotle burrito in about 30 seconds.

How has college affected your music?

College has affected my music a lot. The ups and downs that people go through during college is very helpful for songwriting. You start realizing that you’re not chasing your dreams alone, and that’s it’s okay to be different or have a major that isn’t “practical” because it’s what you love. College taught me that life’s possibilities are endless and that life is too short to waste it on caring about what people think of you. My music is a reflection of who I am and shows that I never listened to anyone when they told me to “focus on something more stable”, because I believe in myself.

I am a sophomore at George Mason, studying Communications with a concentration in journalism. My main campus involvements include being a sister of Alpha Omicron Pi International sorority, Mason Ambassadors, and contributing to both Mason Cable News and The Fourth Estate as a reporter. I hold a current internship in the Admissions Office, working specifically for the Washington Scholars Program. After interning for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference this past summer, I realized that journalism was absolutely what I wanted to spend the rest of my life doing. I'm excited for my time at George Mason and to continue adventuring the DC area! You can catch me at Starbucks.
