Maggie Jackson is a sophomore at George Mason University majoring in Tourism and Events Management. She was born in Baltimore, grew up in Newport News and has now found her home at GMU. She is an active member of Chi Omega and a great asset to the club field hockey team!
Most rewarding part about being a Mason Patriot? Having people smile at you all over campus! For the most part, everyone at Mason is warm and it’s always nice to be around kind people.
Favorite spot on campus? My living room! It’s just my time to get out of the hustle and bustle and see what’s going on with my roomates and people watch. My roommates and I love to watch all the caffeine-deprived students walking into Starbucks–living in Northern Neck certainly has its perks! I also love the comfy chairs along the railing of the JC. You see everyone and can sit and do work or just socialize.
Advice for people looking to get involved on campus? Try anything and keep an open mind. This campus is so diverse and has so many activities and organizations–you’re bound to find something you’re passionate about!
Three things you’d ask a fairy godmother for? Being able to see my puppies everyday, a microwave that would make me whatever it sensed I was in the mood for and an endless supply of clean clothes.
Favorite thing to binge watch on Netflix? Friday Night Lights has my heart. Texas forever, ya’ll.
What do you hope to do in the future? I’ve always seen myself working with kids in some capacity. I started babysitting as soon as I was old enough, and then I started working with the YMCA and have been with them for the past four years. I love Event Planning and Management/Leadership roles so I can see myself going in the direction of an exectuive job at the YMCA or as an event planner and coordinator. And maybe somewhere down the road, I’ll be able to find the happy medium of the two!
