Double Duty Products

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

With a limited budget and limited space, it’s important to have items that serve multiple purposes. Whether it’s a set of drawers that can act as a nightstand or a beauty product that can be used on different parts of your face, these items will save you time and money. Save some space in your makeup bag and try out some tips below!

Champagne Shimmery Eye Shadow

A light, champagne colored eye shadow can serve as both an eye shadow color and a highlighter for your face. Use it as a wash all of your lid, on the inner corners of
your eye, and your brow bone as an eye shadow. You can then use that same color for the tops of your cheekbones, done the center of your nose, and above the cupid’s bow of your lip as a face highlighter. Use a small, dense brush to apply this color as an eyeshadow, and a fluffy brush to use it as a highlighter.

Rosy Lipstick/Cream Blush

The beauty of lipsticks and cream blushes is that they can be used interchangeably. Apply the lipstick to your lips straight from the tube, but use your fingers to warm it up before applying to your cheeks for a natural flush. Use your fingers to apply your regular cream blush to your cheeks, and a small lip brush to apply it as a sheer lipstick. Having your lipstick or cream blush serve double-duty will give you a quick, pulled-together look. Just toss one of the two in your bag, and you’re good to go!

Matte Bronzer

I love a good, matte (no shimmer) bronzer. It’s great to use as a contour for your cheeks, nose, and forehead, but also to give you’re an overall bronzed glow, without looking like a disco ball. Use an angled brush to contour, and a fluffy brush for an all over glow. Another use for matte bronzer is as an eye shadow crease color. It will give your eyes natural looking depth, without looking obvious. Use a fluffy crease brush to apply the color, and you’ll see your eyes come alive.

Vaseline

This old standby has been around forever for a reason. Vaseline or petroleum jelly
can be used in many different ways. It serves as an excellent lip balm for dry, cracked lips, but can also remove difficult to remove eye make-up. Just rub some one before cleansing, and wash off with your regular face wash. You can also use Vaseline to moisturize dry skin, like on your elbows and knees. Just make sure you use it before bed to avoid making everything in your path greasy! A cool trick I learned was that if you’re in a pinch for mascara, use some Vaseline to gloss them up a bit.  It will give you length and help hold a curl.
