1. One of the best ways to wear shorts in between seasons is to accessorize with tights. Try something other than black such as maroon or chocolate brown to add contrast to your look. If you feel the need to put on heavier shorts for the cooler days, wool blends can easily be dressed up or down. (J.Crew)
2. Scarves are probably my favorite accessories. Throw on a printed floral snood (infinity scarf) over any color tee shirt or v-neck sweater and they instantly transform your outfit. You can wear scarves with light weight dresses, cotton tanks, and chambray button downs for those brisker mornings. Investing in a cashmere scarf is also a go-to way to make any outfit look chic, but it can be pricey. If you do dare to shell out the big money buy a neutral one in camel or black. This is something you can have the rest of your life so make sure it can go with anything. (Net-a-Porter)
3. Vests are fool proof and a definite to add to your coat collection. Sleeveless, mid sleeve, down, jean, leather, any vest can be worn throughout fall/winter/spring. A solid color can be worn over dresses, with knee length skirts, and with jeggings–need I say more? (J.Crew)
4. A boyfriend sweater is an effortless way to stay warm and comfortable. Wear over an oxford, a ribbed turtleneck and with cropped dark denim. Cowl-neck sweaters are a favorite for fall because putting one on makes you feel classic and put together without actually trying. Wear sweaters over short sleeve tees and with skirts. Again, stick with neutral colors so that it can be worn with multiple bottoms and add a pendant to elongate your body. (Nordstrom)
When buying a basic make sure it can be worn for more than two months. There is nothing worse than starting at your hard earned money hanging in your closet. Have an idea of what you already own. This makes shopping more enjoyable and you can have some extra money to splurge on those to die for boots you have wanted all season.
