Recently a viral tweet provided me with newfound love for some of Christmas’ unsung hero’s:

The tweet from user @catreynolsnyc stated:

“MALE REINDEER LOSE THEIR ANTLERS IN WINTER AND FEMALES DON’T THEREFORE SANTA’S SLEIGH IS ACTUALLY PULLED BY A TEAM OF STRONG, POWERFUL, UNDERRATED WOMEN!!!!! YOU GO, GIRLS!! I SEE YOU!!!”

Yes, as it turns out, Santa’s eight dedicated reindeer are actually females. You see, scientifically speaking, male reindeer shed their antlers in the beginning of the winter. Since we so often see Santa’s sleigh portrayed with eight reindeer and their beautiful antlers, we can all come to the conclusion that the reindeer are females.

So, how cool is it that eight female reindeer guide Santa around the globe once a year?! Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Vixen are true Christmas heroes and this is just another fact to add to the list of great things women can do.

So just remember: Happy Holidays and all hail the reindeer queens. Via Giphy
