This semester, I have been experimenting a lot with my routines regarding my body. From trying new workouts to intermittent fasting, I’ve just been curious to see how my body reacts to some of the most talked about health trends. While I have my personal goals of toning up for the summer and regulating my metabolism, I have had some room to play around in my daily schedule to try some new things. So, here is what my experience with drinking apple cider vinegar everyday for the last month has been like!
Before we start, apple cider vinegar has been proven to have many health benefits (some less realistic than they claim to be)
Some of these benefits include:
-Blood sugar regulation
-Appetite suppression
-Balancing pH
-Improved digestion
However, there can be some downsides of drinking it daily such as stomach pains and throat burns, which is why it’s important to drink it in moderation. Either way, if you feel that the benefits outweigh the costs for you personally, make sure you buy the raw, unfiltered kind as it contains “the mother”. The mother is essentially a colony of bacteria from the fermentation process of the vinegar that holds the beneficial properties (Very similar to kombucha SCOBY).
For one, I normally am not a huge fan of things that are super sour and boy did apple cider vinegar take some getting used to. I followed the popular method of drinking a glass of warm water first thing in the morning with 1-2 tablespoons of ACV mixed in. While it took a few days to get used to the flavor, it also took a few days for my stomach (empty, as I have also been fasting) to adjust. Not that my stomach would get upset or anything, it would just feel weird. However, it would pass within a matter of minutes and after the first two weeks of drinking the stuff, I was completely used to it.Via Natural Living Ideas
Next, my bloating definitely decreased. I know that part of that was due to my intermittent fasting, but the other factor responsible was definitely the ACV. I don’t normally wake up super bloated or anything, especially not anymore as I’ve been fasting, but I noticed that my bloating throughout the course of the day as I eat meals decreased as well!Via Giphy
Lastly, over the course of the month, my digestion improved. It may sound super BS but I swear it did. I can tell because my appetite has become regular, meaning I’m getting hungry at reasonable times for my body. Additionally (TMI warning) my bowel movements have become super regular. Yeah, we’ll just leave it at that.
Whether drinking ACV is right for you is completely your decision, but I hope you learned something from my experience, collegiettes!
