Devin Limo is a charismatic and driven sophomore at  Mason. His warm personality and ambition make him a key player in every organization that he is apart of. Her Campus George Mason University got to sit down with the brother of Kappa Sigma to learn how he balances academics, work, internships and brotherhood.
Her Campus George Mason University: What is your major and year?
Devin Limo: My major is ISOM. which stands for information systems and operation management. My two minors are in cyber security and network telecommunications, and I’m a sophomore.
HCGMU: What activities are you involvement in?
DL: I’m a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, honors college, MISOMA, which is the Mason ISOM association. I intern for the Fairfax County Republican Committee and I do programing with a small local business called, “ccAdvertising.”
I also work at the office of annual giving — I’m a Mason messenger there. I also work for Mason catering, and I help a retired marine on his ranch on the weekends.
HCGMU: How did you start helping the retired marine?
DL: One of our brothers, Joe, was helping this guy out a lot on the weekends. One weekend he asked if I could help find someone to fill in for him for one day out of the week, and I said I would do it. I’m learning a lot — the guy is 50 but he’s such a hard worker.
HCGMU: How do you balance your schedule?
DL: Google calenders. I know when my free time is, and when it isn’t.  I try to block everything off and make time to get my homework done.
HCGMU: How has being a brother of  Kappa Sigma changed your college experience?
DL: It all started when I was pledging, we were required to participate in a lot of community service events. It’s given me the motivation to be involved, not only on campus, but within the greater community of Fairfax. It’s taught me diligence and being committed to something that I’ve started. It’s also motivated me to become a better leader.
HCGMU: What is an interesting fact about you?
DL: My diverse ethnic background. I’m a quarter Chamorro, a quarter Filipino, a quarter Cherokee, and a quarter African American. My Chamorro heritage is very instilled in me. I go to Guam almost every summer. It’s definitely where I want to live when I’m retired. My entire dad’s side of the family is there, so it’s always nice to go back and see everybody.
HCGMU: What are your goals for this semester?
DL: To make dean’s list again. Just make it through alive and to keep everything balanced. I make an effort to put in an equal amount of effort with everything that I do.
HCGMU: What has been your best moment at Mason so far?
DL: Definitely when I got into Kappa Sig. There was a lot of hard work, effort and time that I put into pledging, and it’s honestly made me the person that I am today. It’s taught me a lot of key values in life, like leadership, chivalry and how to be a gentleman. Also, respect. Respect towards others, especially towards girls. The values that were instilled in me during pledging are the values I live my life by. Â
HCGMU: What is your dream scenario after graduation.
DL: I used to be very adamant about going into the Navy after i graduated. That’s kinda falling off as an option due to the recent defense budget cuts. I wanted to go into the Navy to build leadership skills and to be able to travel. I want to have a job that allows me to travel and have a lot of responsibly and leadership roles so that I can meet other people and enhance my skill set. Hopefully that leads to owning my own business one day, maybe a consulting company.
