Zeta Tau Alpha’s Panhellenic Queen: Megan Adreance

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

As recruitment season approaches, we sat down with Zeta Tau Alpha’s Panhellenic Delegate to discuss what it means to be panhellenic and what the greek community means to her.

Jenny Muchnikoff (JM): Can you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?

Megan Adreance: (MA): I’m a senior majoring in accounting. I spent the summer in Nashville, Tennessee as a financial intern at Cracker Barrel’s Headquarters. Now I’m back at school taking accelerated masters classes and working as a finance TA.

JM: That sounds interesting, what do you want to do with finance?

MA: I want to be a forensic accountant that works for the FBI because fraud examination never gets dull.

JM: Now that we know a little bit about you, can you tell us about your experience going through recruitment?

MA: I went through as a sophomore, so I didn’t have the freshmen nervousness most have. I had seen how active greek life was on campus and knew it was something I wanted to be a part of.

JM: What would you say to people not sure if they want to go through recruitment?

MA: If any part of you has even considered it, do it. You’ll find at least one person that you’ll make a connection with.

JM: As Panhellenic Delegate for Zeta Tau Alpha, what does that mean?

MA: I am the liaison between the panhellenic council and the chapter. I tell the chapter what’s happening in other sororities and tell the community what’s happening with ours.

JM: What are some of your responsibilities?

MA: This encompasses advocating for other chapter’s philanthropy events and encouraging other chapters to come to ours so we can support one another. I also plan mixers with other sororities once a month. We’ve recently done glitter bottle making for children in hospitals, study parties, and game night.

JM: What would you say it means to be panhellenic?

MA: To have a community mindset, rather than an individualized chapter mindset. Always having the greek community in mind and supporting women no matter what chapter they’re a part of.

JM: Would you say greek life has helped you grow?

MA: It has definitely made me more outgoing person, I’ve never talked to so many people in my life. It’s also inspired me to get into my accelerated master’s program because you see all these women dominating their fields and accomplishing great things.

JM: Is there anything you’d like to see improved upon within the Greek community?

MA: I’d like to see more people making bonds outside of one’s chapter. Even though we are pretty connected as it is, I’d like to see more people reach out and make friends within the Panhellenic community.

Megan Adreance is breaking down barriers and sorority stereotypes by advocating for all women to support one another. She wants everyone going through recruitment to remember that they’re not only looking for a home within a specific chapter but within the greek community as a whole.

Remember to keep signing up for recruitment collegiettes!
