6 Alternatives for American Apparel

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

Early October, made-in-America brand American Apparel has filed for bankruptcy. Even though it’s still a little early to tell what will happen with the brand, we’ve come up with a list of alternatives.

1. Topshop

The only problem with this store is that there is so much to choose from. They virtually have all the same products as American Apparel…but usually cheaper.

Left: American Apparel (Stripe Long Spaghetti Tank Dress, $22); Right: Topshop (Striped Square Neck Maxi dress, $24)

2. ASOS

Another British brand, ASOS has all the simple pieces that American Apparel has plus more.

Left: American Apparel (Button Front Denim A-Line Skirt, $62); Right: ASOS (Denim Dolly Button Front Mini Aline Skirt, $47)

3. Urban Outfitters

Trust me, you do not need to me a ‘hipster’ to find cute clothing that works for you at Urban Outfitters.

Left: American Apparel (Delphine Tunic Sweater, $78); Right: Urban Outfitters (Easy V-Neck Tunic Top, $54)

4. Pink Ice

Even though online shopping is huge now, some brands are so underrated. Pink Ice has a lot to offer for cheap.

Left: American Apparel (Printed Crossback Romper, $58); Right: Pink Ice (Brickhouse Tribal Romper, $14.99)

5. Gap

Gap has been around for years, yet I feel like it’s so underrated. It has so many of the basic options that American Apparel also sells.

Left: American Apparel (Unisex Denim Jacket, $125); Right: Gap (1969 heritage denim jacket, $69.95)

6. H&M

H&M is known for its fast-fashion to always keep you looking on point with the latest trends.

Left: American Apparel (Medium Wash High-Waist Jean, $90); Right: H&M (Super Skinny High Jegging, $19.99)
