7 Ways to Spend Your Spring Break If You’re Not Traveling

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgetown chapter.

It may seem like many of your classmates plan on spending their spring break sipping lattes at a café in France or relaxing on the beach with friends in Cancun, but there are quite a few college students who don’t plan on going anywhere for spring break. If you are one of these people, it might be tempting to spend your spring break binge watching the latest Netflix series (which there is no shame in doing). Instead of binge watching your favorite TV show, here are 7 ways to make the most out of your spring break “staycation”:

  1. Go hiking

As college students, we spend most of our time in libraries and dorm rooms studying, so use spring break as an opportunity to spend some time outside and take in all that nature has to offer.

  1. Have a movie marathon

Gather a couple of your closest friends, make some popcorn and have a movie marathon! I recommend having a Harry Potter marathon, as it takes 19 ½ hours to complete, so it will probably take you a couple of days to get through them all.

  1. Read a book (for pleasure!)

We do A LOT of reading in college (obviously), but this is your opportunity to do some reading for pleasure. I would recommend reading something short, so that you can read the book in its entirety during spring break.

*Book recommendation: Check out Rupi Kaur’s The Sun and Her Flowers https://www.amazon.com/Sun-Her-Flowers-Rupi-Kaur/dp/1449486797

  1. Treat yourself

Have a full on spa day right at home. Spring break is a time to relax and remove yourself from all of that school related stress. Make a face mask, paint your nails, and soak in the bath for hours. You work hard, so you deserve it!

  1. Check out a local museum

Going to school in D.C means that you have access to tons of FREE museums that are apart of the Smithsonian Institution. Use spring break as an excuse to be a tourist in a city that you are already familiar with.

  1. Get organized

Whether it’s doing a bit of Spring cleaning, making a 4-year plan, or starting a bullet journal, make sure you get organized this spring break so that you can feel refreshed when school starts up again.

  1. Start a workout routine

Customize a workout routine for yourself, that way when school starts up again, you’ll be in the habit of working out and hopefully able to keep up with it!

I am a Freshman in the College, who is currently undecided about her major, a Washington, D.C native, lover of Harry Potter and rocky road ice cream, a frequent visitor of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, and a Virgo.
